  • Israel killing civilians in Gaza and the West Bank
@Benkei Ho ho ho! Just a sanctimonious keyboard warrior. Champion avoidance of reality!
  • Disease
@skyblack Most folks want to confirm, they don't care about disease they just want comfort.
To folks who are not conformist and who have some cultural baggage one must just steadily rid oneself of intrusive thoughts and actions which are based on the disease of fear.
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
    @Olivier5 This is just reductionism.
Before karens it was sheep and before then idiots or whatever. No zeitgeist. Common sense observation and experience.
Yes,we make sense of things, that's human, not the province of book philosophy.
  • Israel killing civilians in Gaza and the West Bank
@Benkei See,your part of the problem. You only want information from certain outlets. And you neglect reports from civilians. Are ordinary people or subalterns refused any say? So you get to play saviour? This elitism is how the whole problem started.
  • Disease
@skyblack We have to get a little more nuanced here.
We can still function in an ill society without being dependent or diseased. I think the disease in society is a reflection of problems in humans yes,but not all humans. I don't believe in jungs shadow or original sin or Eastern or western notions of ignorance needing liberation.
Thanks for the compliment. I see you as many degrees higher than the general dross here, hence my engagement with you.
  • Israel killing civilians in Gaza and the West Bank
@Benkei So the subaltern can't speak.
If you have been there and do talk to people, then the fact you ignore testimony renders both points moot, does it not.
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
@counterpunch You couldn't resist could you!!!
  • Disease
@skyblack See,this is now quibbling over your rigid definitions.
Adjustment can also mean adapting to circumstances.
DO you want everyone to go mad or maladjust because society has problems?
  • Disease
I think you can be adjusted but not conform.
I think the quote would be better with conform.
  • Bannings
    Lol!
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
@DingoJones Name some "great" philosophers who weren't claiming they had discovered the secret which had eluded all others?
  • Israel killing civilians in Gaza and the West Bank
@Benkei And first hand accounts from people who live there mean nothing? Just anecdotes?
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
@DingoJones Yes. But the amount of genuine philosophers is exceedingly rare for a field that prides itself on critical thinking and "truth."
  • Israel killing civilians in Gaza and the West Bank
@Benkei See this is just playing the victim.
Your ethnicity and country is not relevant to me.
Your current character and whether you know any people on the ground or anything about the middle Eastern culture is totally relevant. How could it not be?
Your posts smack of reading about a conflict solely from second hand media sources. A terrible way to gauge the actual conflict on the ground.
  • Is humanity in deep trouble?
@Benj96 If your not an optimistic your a pessimist.
Don't hide behind the nonsense of I only asked a question.
Grow a pair and own your post.
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
@DingoJones Well,I don't see a difference between philosophy and philosophers. And many indeed appeal to authority. In general it is extremely rare I have come across a philosopher who is genuine rather than an arrogant fool.
  • Authority and freedom
@skyblack I get you. But still much prefer person to past.
    It's more...personal!
  • Bannings
@T clark Surely you can multitask brother?!
  • Israel killing civilians in Gaza and the West Bank
    @Benkei Just disingenuous nonsense.
    Rumbled.
  • Bannings
@180 Proof You need a wife old man.
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
    @DingoJones That's pretty fair comment.
I'm not a fan of utilitarianism or the trolley problem as they are too contrived.
Descartes cogito is correct. But blatantly obvious anyway.
No proof needed for existence! He could have said feelings equally validly. And the cogito should also apply to other minds and matter as well.
I'm not saying you can't benefit from philosophy but I would give YOU the credit rather than the philosophers or philosophy you mentioned.
  • Bannings
@180 Proof Clear and succinct? Most of your posts are contrived jargon laden regurgitated hodge podges of propoganda and cliches... Irony mister.
  • Bannings
@praxis Come on praxis, are you trying to get people banned?! I happen to like some of what skyblack says. He's better than most.
  • Israel killing civilians in Gaza and the West Bank
@Benkei You have any direct contact with civilians in Palestine?
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
@Olivier5 But the "trouble" is not necessarily philosophical. It's just economics, karens and government interference.
  • Is humanity in deep trouble?
Remember malthus? Remember jesus? Remember the Cold War? Remember the alleged oil crisis We? We humans are the future and extremely strong.
You pessimists can stress yourselves out,and doom and gloom, but you only hurt yourselves and annoy others.
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
    @DingoJones No,the truth doesn't require agreement.
But which philosopher has attained truth then? Especially when many are diametrically opposed.
Tell me practically, give me some ethical and philosophical truths you heve gleaned during your critical journey?
  • Are Philosophical questions a lack of self-esteem?
@DingoJones I don't see how ethics is really addressed by philosophy. There is no agreement.
Critical thinking is available to anyone, not the exclusive province of philosophers.
Philosophers can't even agree on what truth is.
  • Bannings
@Michael I know. But look at the comments. Nothing constructive or informative in general just hate and lack of discernment.

@praxis Jesus and moses would be the first to get banned for low quality posts. Forget the old and new testament we have streetlight and baden with their ranting
    monologues! Class!
  • The Novelist or the academic?
@bert1 Because I'm better at it than those who worship it.
  • The Novelist or the academic?
@180 Proof An oxymoron! Free thought in bowing to science and philosophy. You read to ruins matey!
Run along. You need plenty of luck for your debate defending your provisional certainty!
Google is your friend mister book worm!
  • The Novelist or the academic?
@Jack Cummins I don't think satre is a great novelist.
His best writings are his essays.
Interior monologues are interesting as they highlight some of the absolute nonsense that runs through people's minds. And can also show some of the more astute thoughts that can be had.
Academia suffers from terrible use of jargon and dodgy writing.
  • Bannings
@unenlightened Yep. Anand was better. And so am I.
Oh,the veneration and romanticising of authority!
