Maybe shiba being a rockstar is over exaggerating but I think is a good prospect because is dirt cheap.

The logic is simple if you can burn $500 at a casino why not just buy shiba for that price and set the stop/gain and forget it.

If it tanks oh well you can get that money back with a single paycheck.

If a miracle happens like DogeCoin did in 2020 where it peaked at 70 cents. Or not even that much say 5 cents. You still walk away with a fat wallet.
  • Is Social Media bad for your Mental Health?
Also is not just a simple yes an no.

Is also about awareness, and I ponder other areas. Like are we living in a technological age of exploiting the emotions to make profit?

That maybe the algorithm is enhancing peoples negative thoughts like “shock jocks”

Example: Damn Democratic are trying to steal our Guns!

    Obviously is a over exaggeration,

the algorithm takes a casual interest or curiosity and blows it up on your browser causing a sort of intellectual tunnel vision by using ads.

A sort of relational logic of end user psychology.

    Is used to make profit.

Take PF, I have no interest in philosophy, I actually not fond of the subject.

But guess how I got here and posting my ideas here.

    LOL!

    The algorithm at works guys
  • Is Social Media bad for your Mental Health?
But yes, since most people in general make bad use of it then yes I think mental illnesses have been seriously increased at the Social Media Era. And I m afraid that it will get much much worse at the near future.dimosthenis9

I am keen to agree and I wonder where the responsibility lies.

Should Facebook be responsible for the creation of the algorithm or the people who use it?

    In other words....

Who should take accountability? The user or the company.

    It feels like Pandora’s box.
  • Is Social Media bad for your Mental Health?
    PsychoanalysisTom Storm

I mean the psychoanalysis of shooters and what motivated them to act on those impulses. If Social media was a factor in motivating there acts of violence. Which is a factor that needs to be considered when asking the question.
  • Is Social Media bad for your Mental Health?
It's certainly fashionable to make this claim about social media. And it could be true but how would we know? Oops, back here again.Tom Storm

There have been studies by the Scientific American Association about it that validates this suspicion. I haven't made my mind, I am simply trying to get another perspective. Although the evidence isn't 100 percent conclusive it is leaning more towards that direction. Hence the debate in the STEM department and how many Engineers are contemplating the ethical implication about Social Media.
  • Emotional Health vs Mental Health: What’s the difference?
I imagine the difference between emotional health vs. mental health is about the same difference between belief systems and systems of belief or between terminology and nomenclature.

It might partly how the words are used in various writing by different authors or it might be how one conceptuses an abstract image when they read the two different words.

In a nutshell, they can mean different things to those who write and read them, but they can also mean the same thing to a person if they wish for them to mean the same thing.
    dclements

So don't you think Mental Health is mostly align to lets say biology and emotional illness lets. Lets say "schizophrenia"

Emotional issues is more event based like trauma compared to a soldier with "PTSD"

one has a chemical and neurological disorder that created an emotional symptom.

The other is struggling with an experience/knowledge based emotional reaction. I witness something horrible and the information I am processing is causing a negative emotional reaction.
  • Is Social Media bad for your Mental Health?
But the point is, you can't tell from such a changewhat is responsible for that change. So many things have changed since 1990 how would you establish it is social media and not, say, inadequate education; secularism; loss of meaning, junk food, movies, etc?Tom Storm

Interviews and psychoanalysis of the people who were involved in the events. And find out when the algorithm was implemented. create a sort of a decade by decade comparison or year by year comparison of violence and how it escalated over the years.
  • Is Social Media bad for your Mental Health?
I'm not sure you could demonstrate a causal connection between the two.Tom Storm

I agree that a casual connection of the two is not possible but there are indicators that society is experience more mental health issues. Take for example school shooting and suicide rates. If we were able to take a census from 1920 to 1980 and a census of 1990 to now it would probably be a very frightening revelation.
  • Why are Metaphysics and Epistemology grouped together?
Epistemology is more of a step by step thought process understanding. But Shouldn't we understand the reaction of what is learn? Like a chain reaction. Also knowledge cause an experience reaction that cascades to an emotional reaction.

How subconsciously we reject information based on how it makes us feel. And you are not aware that you are rejecting what you are being taught.

Imagine a piece of information to be true.

But that info make your sad and depress and you don't like it. It just make you feel "iky"

Your conscious mind will rationalize it as true but your subconscious will say "Hell no this is BS!" and will go out an find data that will contradict that to make you feel better again.

And all this will happen without you knowing it. Is almost automatic.

If your conscious mind is "Albert Einstein" your Subconscious is "Bob Ross"

I was exploring the features of my uncle's smartphone and happened to come across Digital Wellbeing! Anyone know what that means?TheMadFool

you can see which apps and websites you use most, and set daily limits.

is pretty much a babysitter app to make sure you don't over do it.

Honestly I think being self discipline is the key to emotional wellbeing and not over do it when it comes to the virtual world.

Read a book instead of a PDF, go for a walk in the park or exercise. Just over all be more interactive with the world.
  • Emotional Health vs Mental Health: What’s the difference?
I found more research that validates that cognitive hygiene is being recognized by the scientific community.

  • Emotional Health vs Mental Health: What’s the difference?
    In response to everyone here.

So should Emotional Health be consider more in the lines of preventive maintenance compared to Mental Health when something needs to be fixed?
  • Emotional Health vs Mental Health: What’s the difference?
Emotional health is a soft way of talking about mental health, without the ostensible stigma of the latter term.Tom Storm

I disagree because there is a clear difference between Psychology and Psychiatry and if that statement is true why have two different type of organized practice. Why go to school to get a PhD in Psychology and get a PhD in Medicine of Psychiatry. Unless there is a difference between the two scientific areas.

In my opinion I believe Emotional Health or Emotional WellBeing Encompass a sort of understanding of emotions and how emotional reaction can cause physical and health issues like mention in Guy Winch lecture on TedTV. And how Brooding and Rumination can create a toxic cognitive state of the mind which can cascade into other areas like physical health problems.

And Negative thinking is sort of like heroin it can be very addicting and alluring. Ignoring it can lead to issues in other areas of life.

It may lead to a mental state of Catastrophizing.

That is my definition of Emotional Health and my argument of why we as a society should emphasize the importance of Cognitive Hygiene. Because it can affect our problem solving skills and distort how we rationalize information.

In the other area we have Psychiatry which is more in sync with medical medicine as in studying the neurons, the brain and using medication for treatment.

Let's take the example of an individual with a cognitive disability like mental retardation (Politically correct term: "Intellectual disability")

This individual would probably develop behavior problems due to his brain damage. And a Psychiatrist can only resolve certain aspects of this person's disability. That's where Psychology comes into play in the form of Behavior specialist, he/she would practice certain strategies to help modify the patient's behavior in a more positive way.

You see the distinction of the two (Emotional Health vs. Mental Health) and how they need to collaborate with one another to have the desired results in helping the individual.

  • IQ vs EQ: Does Emotional Intelligence has any place in Epistemology?
First I want to extend thanks for providing input and interest in my post.

Though I have to admit I got a little intimidated by the platform and the interest in the topic because I feel I open a can of worms hear. LOL!

And apologies in advance for not answering everyone directly.

To elaborate EI and EQ even though they are not recognized by academics environmental (I assume not sure gotta investigate). To me these terms help relay the point across that analytical thinking is not limited to logic or rational thought but being aware of your feeling, interpreting your feelings and the feelings of others.

Also how is another form of communication in society. Is especially highlighted in the business world where there are jobs that require high analytical thinking that may produce high levels of stress. And being mindful of Emotional health is not just productive it prevents employees from leaving there positions and creating a high turn over rate.

The process of filling a position can take months and cost the company thousands of dollars in background checks and training.

Now we are kind of trending on the lines of Human Resources in a corporate setting and how employees emotional state can effect productivity. And that is why they have EAP programs in the work place. And in some cases provided free therapy in case a love one pass away. Or provide FMLA for Mom’s and Dad’s to provide them the opportunity to bond with there children.

EI and EQ is not dismissed as this mambo jumbo self help stuff. Corporation and business take it quite seriously. And they go as far as hiring specialist so the make sure they have the most optimal performance from there employees.

If business and corporation see the value in this why aren’t intellectual not following suite?

Why are we neglecting this aspect of logical thinking just because it cannot be physical observed.

It just leads me to believe that anyone who practice epistemology would be working with a handy cap. Assuming they dismiss emotions as part of logical and rational thinking.

It has been proven countless times in business that EI and EQ is a valuable tool. So why is it dismissed in philosophy if it is supposed to be a discipline of rational thought and thinking?

I believe there is a discriminatory perspective that emotions should not be a form of validation. But you see it in action all the time especially in business.

So should there should be a sort of epistemology reform or update to make it more compatible to the modern times.

In other words maybe epistemology is outdated and needs a upgrade.
  • To What Extent Does Philosophy Replace Religion For Explanations and Meaning?
When speaking about the harshest aspects of existence, I am referring to the existential aspects of existence which cause so much suffering, ranging from fear of one's own death, experiencing the death of significant others, poverty, and seeing atrocities in the world, including people treating others in an inhumane way, and all forms of sufferingJack Cummins

I can see how that can cause a lot of distress. I’m stressing out just thinking about it right now.

But let me ask you something weird if the answer was to suddenly appear out of no where.

What would you do with it?

I don’t mean to sound intrusive just wondering that’s all.
  • To What Extent Does Philosophy Replace Religion For Explanations and Meaning?

What aspects of existence are you talking about? As in being hard?

What part of understand existence is difficult to comprehend and why?

I see many in emotional turmoil about ones self awareness and I find that confusing to me.

I guess I would like to know what is so scary about being self-aware and why existence brings so much anxiety?
  • Is Crypto Mining an endeavor worth pursuing?
I got into the cryptocurrency bug when I bought a $100 worth of Dogecoin when it was 3 cents per coin last year and sold it when it peaked at 70 cents.

Now I am wondering about BitCoin, Ethereum and LiteCoin. Than keeping in mind how Elon Musk bought 1.5 billion dollars worth of BitCoins when it was $32,610 per coin. And now is worth $61,697 USD per coin and how it effected TESL stocks jumping from around $500 when I sold it last year to now $1114 per share.

God I wish I had kept my TESLA shares.

But anyway, I have a strong feeling is not a fad especially since TESLA are accepting BitCoins to sell there TESLA vehicles.

Now I am wonder about whether I should invest in the EV market again.
  • Neither science nor logic can disprove God?
Why is it that neither science nor logic can disprove God?Shawn

That is a very vague question that can be interpreted in so many ways.

What is your definition of God?

How would you describe God? As a person who lives in the sky, consciousness being without a body or a sentient Universe or sentient reality?

Reason for me asking is because my perception of God may be different than yours and it various based on the individual.

To prove or disprove something you must elaborate on the question. And describe the kind of God your speaking of.

Than the next thing that comes to mind, why ask the question, what is the purpose for the question and what is your motive for knowing the answer.

Than the question “Is there a God?” A very multidimensional question that can be interpreted in numerous ways.

Similar to asking “What does salt taste like?” Or “What does the color red looks like?”

Is an experience that cannot be validated but we inheriting know is real based on mutual shared experience.

We all shared the experience of tasting salt but yet we struggle to describe how salt taste like. So we take for granted that you had the experience of tasting salt. So we simply say it taste salty to describe the experience of its flavor. But if you encounter someone who never had the sense of taste how would you describe the experience of tasting salt?

That is God, God being the salt and the non-believer is someone without sensation of taste. And a believer having been blessed with the sensation of taste.

Only someone who has a shared mutual experience will understand the philosophy of faith. And those who never had the experience will never understand.
  • IQ vs EQ: Does Emotional Intelligence has any place in Epistemology?

  • IQ vs EQ: Does Emotional Intelligence has any place in Epistemology?
So a question comes to mind.

Should we treat Epistemology more as a tool than a philosophy?

Shouldn’t epistemologist be treated as a sort of guideline to help succeed in an academic environment.

Why try to apply epistemology in other areas of life that seem incompatible?
  • IQ vs EQ: Does Emotional Intelligence has any place in Epistemology?
emotions have a greater influence upon rational thought than the obverse.Michael Zwingli

That was the point I was trying to get across with this question.

And how we process information in our mind is influenced by our emotions.

Take a scenario where an individual who had a series of bad experience over let's say eating spaghetti.

Let's say in this scenario a Dietitian agree with this assessment due to the high sugar content in pasta but does not know the background story on why this person hates spaghetti. Than unintentional reinforcing the belief that all spaghetti is bad.

Than this person who believes that all spaghetti is bad one day encounters a foodie (Someone who studies gastronomy) and these two individuals get in a debate on whether spaghetti is good or bad.

Not knowing the emotional motivators that lead to one's thought process can be an obstacle to understand the other in why someone would think that. Than the truth or knowledge (however you want to phrase it) becomes more of a blurred grey area.

Are you rationalizing this idea based on emotional trauma and/or personal experiences. Is this thought based on logical assessment and data? And can you differentiate the two when it comes to decision making and thought?

In my opinion, a question can result in an emotional answer, logical answer and a hybrid of both which may present many different results.

Also it become exhausting because now you need to be mindful of the question and how the question is presented. If the question is to vague than you invite other factors and different interpretation of the question. Than it creates what I call a snowball effect where numerous serious of sub questions would arise like...

Was this person abused by someone serving him spaghetti?
Was he obese and got fat eating to much spaghetti?
Are we even talking about the same thing?
    Doesn't he understand the question?

Than it becomes what I call a rollercoaster of trivial questioning that do not apply to the original question you asked.

So understand emotional motivators and how it relates to rational thought may help in understand the purpose of thought and thinking.
