    A special version; thanks.

    Do Marxists still exist?
  • What are you listening to right now?
I probably posted this already. A good snapshot of my musical brain at the moment

  • What podcast are you listening to right now?
    ↪Jamal

Returning Jesus in general has more of a Talk Talk vibe for me. To each their own. Cool New Grass sample in this track (last off topic track I promise)

  • What podcast are you listening to right now?
Bohren & der Club of Gore — Jamal

Don't know them but appears to be something that I need to check out. On the list it goes.

In the spirit of unbearably poignant nostalgia, this is probably my top No-Man track. Wrong thread, whoops

"The hollow thump of life that has no taste."
  • What podcast are you listening to right now?
    ↪Jamal

In retrospect No-Man would probably be my favorite project of his, maybe aside from Bass Communion. I like No-Man, although it does have recently-widowed-40-something vibes to it at times. And the Talk Talk/David Sylvian/Scott Walker influence can be a little heavy-handed. The No-Man catalogue is deep, though.

    ↪Changeling

    Good idea.
  • What are you listening to right now?
This song reminds me that America isn't quite the anti-christ our Australian lovelies would make it out to be:

"We're all just walking through this darkness on our own."
  • What podcast are you listening to right now?
I recently found “The Album Years” with Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness. — Jamal

Ironically I've listened to this one, since I used to be a Wilson-head back in high school.

I suppose I can give it a shot. I'm not really sure how podcasts would fit into my schedule. I'm a true millennial; I just watch youtube channels.
  • What podcast are you listening to right now?
I don't understand podcasts. I used to love listening to terrestrial radio because it was live, and you just had to see what was on and go with it. Choosing to listen to someone talk for an hour feels weird. I guess it's like reading.

A classic example of why you are not a trustworthy human being and have the sense of humor of a child. Thank Cthulhu you're no longer a mod.

Give thoughtful, substantive responses and I'll be happy to have a conversation.
  • God as ur-parent
    ↪Jackson

    Not really.
  • God as ur-parent
There is a certain kind of mindset which finds this new universe not exhilarating — hypericin

How would anyone find their "God's falling like meteors from the sky" exhilarating? You're describing a complete paradigm shift in which the universe is no longer safe but rather alien. It's total existential crisis. As @Hanover mentioned, the whole thing smacks of personal projection, a rationalization of a personal experience.

Ahead of it's time, released in 1997:

  • What are you listening to right now?
The drumming is so certain to itself. — Paine

Danny Carey is a jazz drummer by trade. I always felt his playing was as emotional as it is technical, a rarity, especially among metal drummers. I think you can see that here:

  • What does beauty have to do with art?
    ↪Jackson

I'm in the process of answering you by asking a question.
  • What does beauty have to do with art?
A beautiful sunset is meaningful. — Jackson

    How so?
  • What does beauty have to do with art?
I’m currently no more inclined to try to define “the aesthetic” than I am to define either “beauty” or “art”. — javra

    :ok:

    ↪Jackson

Ultimately, beauty and meaning are the same thing.

    Lovely stuff here my friends:

I imagine the human voice slightly predates the wooden stick as the first musical instrument. There's a reason pop music is/was arguably the most successful art form in history (I guess that's a whole different can of worms).
  • What are you listening to right now?
    ↪Paine

They're apparently that tight live as well; no studio wizardry required.
  • What are you listening to right now?
    ↪Pinprick

Indeed. Also love this track and this album in general, I feel like it's pretty underrated. The production alone is a lot more detailed.

Interesting choice. Lateralus might be the best metal track ever recorded.

Candide might be the worst novel I read in college.

Although I did love the "One must tend one's own garden" sentiment at the end.

Haven't read Miller, no. I suppose this thread is just an opportunity for unenlightened to enlighten us? As MU mentioned, we all do consider you god, myself included.
