• A diary entry of mine regarding free will, determinism and its implication for morality
If we then define free will as the ability to consciously influence the outcome of reality, determinism necessarily precludes it.ho ching leung

If I lift up my arm, I am having an effect on the real world and I am conscious of this. I call my "choice" to do this a choice, without the quotation marks, and so does everyone else in the world, even the libertarian free willers when they are not specifically considering philosophy. I am responsible for my actions unless they are accidental, forced or due to some abnormal mental state such as mental illness. I cannot claim diminished responsibility for a crime in court on the grounds that my actions are caused by prior events, but I probably could if I showed the opposite, that I suffered from a neurological disease that makes my actions undetermined.
