• We're conscious beings. Why?

I can't argue with that considering i'm not exactly a scientist.
  • What made the first viruses or bacteria (single cells) organism have the desire or ability replicate

I understand why larger creatures are driven towards sex and reproduction. However reproduction requires structures with in the cell or virus that makes that cell or virus split itself into two.

When the cell formed randomly, how and why did a separate structure that made the animal (single cell) split or reproduce?
  • What made the first viruses or bacteria (single cells) organism have the desire or ability replicate
How complex can a self replicating component within a virus or cell be if initially it is formed by accident?
  • We're conscious beings. Why?

not sure what that means. I'll have to scroll through all the posts to see what that means.
  • Jews And The Killing Of Jesus

I agree with this completely. The Jews were fulfilling phrophecy that the savior had to be sacrificed. I always assumed you were jewish in ancestry but have converted to christianity. No wrong answer. That was just the assumption i made.

As for slavery, their is modern slavery/employment in slight form. Greed can eventually lead to slavery.

We have economic colonialism/exploitation growing in the globalist society we live in.
  • We're conscious beings. Why?

I think the general idea is that preconscious and conscious is being viewed as one and the same on this particular forum topic. Ofcourse when you get into more detail you are right.
  • A new belief in accordance with the book "Sapiens"

Perhaps. But i remember reading in the book several times. I'll eventually reread it in the book if it is there.
  • Problems with uncertainty

I believe we should learn through experience. If something worked in the past thats how we should move forward in the future. What harm would it do to read books written by other people and apply the knowledge from those books to our own experiences in life. I believe a good understanding of high school mathematics is also important. (algebra, Calculus I, geometry, boolean algebra, discrete mathematics and certainly statistics, there may be some more).
  • We're conscious beings. Why?

its hard to say. To me it seems like there needs to be a better explanation than just say pondering it is superflous.
  • A new belief in accordance with the book "Sapiens"

yeah thats one of the things i got from the book
  • A new belief in accordance with the book "Sapiens"

The way scientists classify species or separate species sometimes is arbituary. There are 5 types of griizzly bears but one of those types can breed fertile offspring with Polar bears. This basically means they are the same species and Polar bears are designated as a different species than grizzlies.

It has been proven that Neanderthal's dna is in European and other modern humans. Most Ape like species have almost identical dna. We're talking less than 3% difference between an Ape and a human. Most difference between humans is phenotype and phenotype comprises of less than 1% of our dna.
  • A new belief in accordance with the book "Sapiens"

Well i read it in his book and i've seen it in several of his videos. I assume you watched the video i showed you.

Here is an article that says the same thing and the article is about Harrari:

  • We Don't Want To Believe - Because, If We Believe, Then...

i agree with this. People don't like to be told they are wrong. I certainly don't like to be told i'm wrong.
  • Unfree will (determinism), special problem

i agree with this. Even if determinism was true it can be extremely dangerous over the long term and possibly comforting in the short term. On a different not i believe forgiveness is critical for any given society.
  • A new belief in accordance with the book "Sapiens"

Well you should reread the first 4 chapters and also i you watch his videos on youtube i can quickly prove he does say that the present world needs a new fiction to believe in. I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion?
  • We're conscious beings. Why?

Individual Cells might not have consciessness. Our desire to procreate is what makes us procreate. A robot is predestined to react how its maker/creator/builder built it IMO.
  • Does time really go faster when you are having fun?

The way we percieve time is a product of how happy we are or at the very least content and also we percieve time not on a scientific basis but how we feel.

Humans are driven more by feeling than logic if left up to our most basic instincts.

When we focus our attention on the time we have more negative feelings.

When we focus on an activity we generally have feelings related to whatever activity that is.
  • Does God(s) exist without religion? How is this possible spiritually?

Sounds like your a naturalist. Thats kind of what the book "Sapiens" is getting at.
  • Does God(s) exist without religion? How is this possible spiritually?
Some speculate when the human population on earth reached the millions and cities formed there was a need for organized religion. The book Sapiens by Noah Harrari attests to this. Ofcourse i don't agree with this but i do find this an interesting subject to study.
  • Questions about the future for determinists
wow. I don't know what to say to this. I don't know how i feel about determinism. It can be a good thing to consider or it can be a bad thing to consider. How to know when to blame our nature and when to be active in solving our problems is on a person by person basis. People who feel they have control of their destinies might be pretermined to feel that way so who can blame them. Great post.
  • Truth, Logic & Empiricism

I'm not sure. I believe it is only justified to judge someone on the basis of the resources that nurture/nature has provided that person. I'm hoping for good things for people not because i'm good but because just like many or most people i've suffered and suffering is something to be avoided. I'm tired buddy. Don't work too hard.
  • Truth, Logic & Empiricism

With out consciessness truth can't be figured out. I believe truth should be built off simple concepts and simple concepts are added together to form complex concepts.
  • Truth, Logic & Empiricism

I'm not sure i know how to answer this correctly. I follow a specific religion or belief system. It seems your guess is as good as mine. I personally don't think we should discount something just because we can't guarantee it as absolute truth.
  • On Reason and Teleology

if you saw my profile or clicked on my name you would realize thats not the case. As you may know an online forum is a bad place to realize someone's character. Online forums are best for discussing concepts and facts. I do appreciate the compliment and i do think your philosophy is a step up from post modernism. On the other hand we can only make decisions on what we have been nurtured with and we in fact all have a similar nature to some measure.
  • On Reason and Teleology

without quoting the Bible i would have to say for the most part you are right. Why i believe the Bible is right is a whole another forum topic.
  • Truth, Logic & Empiricism

In regards to the second quote, we can only hold ourselves accountable to our own notions of reality and in addition to that we should hold dear what we have been taught from our youth.

For a hypothetical higher power, that power should not hold us accountable for information we never had access too. That being said most people use some guess work in any decision they make even if it is insignificant.
  • On Reason and Teleology
*not gods but higher power as Alcoholic anonymous calls it
  • On Reason and Teleology

we should use scientific principles in our reasoning in my opinion. However i do agree that there is alot of evidence (as Alcoholic anonymous calls it) that a God or gods exist. To get a full understanding of reality we should read as much as possible. Given our limited time on earth i would say we'll never come to complete knowledge of reality.
  • Ethics of care

elegantly simplistic. However you can't expect those in power to just relinquish control of their power with out something in return. Power can only be taken from someone in power with good philosophical arguments or someone more powerful to take those in power out of control.
  • Truth, Logic & Empiricism

Truth should be based on reoccurring incidents. We can't hold ourselves accountable for what we haven't found to be true based on reoccurring events and also we should regard what is told to us to some extent.

Whatever we make money at we should trust the leaders in our field. Whatever we treat as a hobby we should trust experience.

  • On Reason and Teleology

Have you ever read "a brief history of time" by Stephen Hawkings? What i get from this is we should not assume there is no reason for existence and we should not assume there needs to be a first cause.

However some have speculated existence to some extent cannot be explained other than "i think therefore i am". How do you feel about this? I like the book "flatland" by Abbott Abbott

  • We're conscious beings. Why?

i would agree with that for the most part.
  • We're conscious beings. Why?

thats fine. Mostly subjects such as this are conjecture. We can't assume we've hit the point in human history that satisfies our own conception of the threshold of necessary truth. Do you dig me? Any given species is limited by time in my own opinion.

  • Musings On Infinity

if you use a 2 dimensional array and produce enough entries in that 2 dimensional array. Using the greek method of exsaustion is just a few steps away. If any one needs the algorithm i can provide it.

  • Musings On Infinity

Calculus can actually be summarized with the greek method of exshaustion. Look it up on google or bing. Calculus always was and always will be close principle but not an exact science. People have written calculus solving software using the greek method of exhaustion, or at the very least have produced the pseudo code for it. I've come up with an algorithm for it.

i stated my theory. Do you have a counter theory? Saying you don't know is completely fine.
