I figured it was a capacity problem. I wonder if there's a way of deleting draft comments by age. I know it saves all mine and they go back years. Every so often I go and delete a few but it's like pulling weeds.

    An odd bug.

I go to my post <here>.
    I left-click on Lionino's name.
I am taken to the first post of the current thread.

I go to my post <here>.
I right-click on Lionino's name and then select, "Open link in new tab."
I am taken to Lionino's post, which is located in a different thread.

Maybe it has something to do with the hexadecimal symbol in the post reference number?

Or maybe it is an Easter egg that you just discovered.

    I can't search in the specific thread "A -> not-A"

In "advanced Search" entering "A -> not-A" in the discussion title does not proved that option in the pop-up. Search results include "A -> not-A", so it's in the searched DB.

I'm not expecting an answer. Just pointing out a curiosity.

I would expect it is the Coriolis force. The program was probably written in the northern hemisphere.

A shame. I was hoping that it would be something to do with the software thinking "A -> not-A, A, ⊨ not-A" invalid.

If the search function started refusing to process low quality philosophy, most of us here on the forum would be in trouble. Not you and me of course.

surely it must have something to do with the non-alphabetic characters in the thread title. Not that I know, but it seems obvious. Probably something to do with indexing.

But there would be a notable improvement in the quality of search results.

Mates are quoting, replying, and mentioning me in the threads, but it doesn't pop up in my notifications.

Does this happen to someone else too?

That's it. A surprisingly large number of threads have search problems because of this. I actually removed the characters from my Anselm thread title because it was causing such problems.

On a PM following on from a recent thread, a name is now struck through. Interesting.

So presumably if one deletes a conversation, it is deleted for oneself, and not for the other participants?

Also, some members do not come up in the search box.

Not sure why - "@I Like Sushi" and "@T Clark" do not come up, but "@Count Timothy" does.

There seems to be no problem with single-word names. "J" is unsearchable.

Presumably, yes. But there is another important fact, and he wasn't the one who started the private message. Probably, if the member who started and invited the rest deletes it, it affects all. Otherwise, the thread of the private message remains. Well, this is a conjecture. I don't really know, but it is interesting to talk about the tips of TPF.

I Like Sushi comes up easily. Try to search him using only the words 'Like' or 'Sushi' and his name pops up.

My theory that @T Clark doesn't come up is that many members whose names include 'Clark'. If I type 'Clark', they appear before Clarky since the search feature only reveals results that begin with 'C' or 'Clark', whereas our friend's user name begins with T.

On the other hand, it is interesting to know that @J is unsearchable. I didn't know that.

I could do several riffs on that, but I'll spare everyone!

Seriously, is that a problem? No one has ever mentioned it to me. I don't mind changing my monicker if it improves functionality.

I was worried that your single-letter name would inhibit me from searching for your posts, given that the search engine here is a lil' wonky. But it seems to work, so I'm happy about that. — Leontiskos

    10/7/2023 via PM

You can search J's posts just like anyone else's. But you cannot search for his name via textual string, either on the server or through ctrl-f.* So he is not unsearchable, but he is also not as searchable as other members.

    * I mean, you can, but it will return everything with a 'j' in it.

Presumably every member with a single character followed by a space does not "come up" in the search box. You can still search for them by typing their name correctly.
