Anyway, I think that your country will survive this just fine just as Arizona will do also. I said to my children that remember this time as when you are older, so you can tell about how it was as a child during the 2020 corona-pandemic. Those stories may get younger people listening, but who knows.ssu

My Indians are listening quite intentently and in many cases are already leading us home. :flower:

  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
I honestly can't tell if you all are joking or actually serious. I'm hoping for the former.Tzeentch
I am serious as I can possibly be. I've lost loved ones to COVID-19 and my husband did NOT have COVID BUT was on a ventilator for 24 days this May and I was not allowed in to see him, at all, EVER, except for 2 minutes after his emergency surgery with a security guard waiting at the door to escort me down to my kids who were not given that 2 minutes.
I wish I could say that it was day by day but it was minute by minute for 21 days and then it became hour by hour.
It's all said in jest, until it's not funny
Everything in life is okay, until it isn't
Life could be better until a loved one has a medical crisis and then nothing but their very survival matters.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)

No matter what happens in the elections, the house divided will stay divided, that's for sure.ssu

I tend to disagree to the extent that "the house divided, will stay divided" for I went through one two many divorces as a child to know that if a house is divided too far, for too long, the house will fall.

Having said that: as I push through college to become a Social worker, I have had to table a program that works in tandem with the police department, because no one is going to have faith that peace on the street can be achieved by a group of social workers, without weapons, being able to deescalate the mood.

That is a division that might not heal. One that gives me heavy heart.

Puff the Magic Dragon holds special meaning to me. Despite all that is said about it being about drug use, I take it as a sentimental song about a little innocent boy growing up.Hanover
    :fear:
Is a special song for me, at a very difficult time in my life I was singing the song and became deeply saddened by the story.
That and "The Cat's Cradle" ....too hard to listen to still. Too many ties to my Dad and my sister :broken:

The last word... One other couple in our group of friends, who were high school sweethearts and have two beautiful children have decided to go their separate ways. That leaves NicK and I as the only first marriage, remaining in tact in our group.
It's amazing and scary all at the same time. It's hard for NicK because now all the males are unmarried even though some are in new relationships.
Pondering why...where it fell apart...how accurate in time were my Spidey senses and what makes the difference in whose marriage is successful and whose is not.
My only thought to our seperating friends is: Please don't destroy in leaving, what you built in coming together.
  • Coronavirus
Well Hermain Cain died of coronavirus after most likely contracting it at Trump's Tulsa rallyMaw

Meh. Correlation, causation let's call the whole thing off. Yes, for the record I did read your "most likely" but the message is the same.
    ~shrugs~

If the government will make the use of them obligatory (for example in public transports), likely people will obey.ssu

I'm mystified at the suggestion that as Americans, we would somehow "obey" better than self regulate, calculate our own risks and act accordingly. As an American, I can tell you what incentives us to act, even if it goes against our own perspectives, is capatilisim. For better and/or for worse our behavior is chosen, to a point and that point is at the transaction of the dollar.
If a store that I want to shop at demands the wearing of a facial mask if I choose to shop there, I do so by their rules. There are a plethora of reasons why people should wear masks and if they don't want to wear one then they will have to find somewhere else to shop. That is the way the USA operates and I know you know this but I am not sure how you cannot see that thread running through this entire pandemic. When I look around my guesstimate is that 85% of people are wearing masks maybe 90,%? But 100% of my youngest indian entering his senior year, in person, on campus living as his University is an hour away, are required to wear masks unless they are in their dorm room. The University has quarentine hotel/dorms, daily temperature checks, the Wellness center that will triage if necessary.
Once again these are just a few of the changes but it follows the money. With a tuition of 52k, unless you have additional fuel costs for flight time to become a Pilot, the University WILL find a way to do it safely.
I've suggested plexy glass enclosed podium squares to allow the older professors to safely teach in person. And have also asked the admission for the risk ratio they are using. Is it a certain % of infected students that could shut things down? Tragically the death of a student or a Professor? Other parents and students want to know and they better have a plan.

Detaining someone is making them stay where they are (e.g. stopping them in the street). Forcing someone into a car and driving them somewhere else is an arrest (or a kidnapping).Michael

I'm not going to say I know what the Federal laws are as opposed to state law but I can only imagine the bar gets lower and the charges stiffer.

Here is what I could find on a quick search of AZ law regarding how to determine the process of narrowing down to make sure citizens rights are being protected.

Two Natural Science classes with labs are all I have left to complete my Associates degree. In May 2021, my youngest indian will be graduating with his B.S. in Simulated Science, Gaming and Animation and me with my A.G. I will be continuing on to ASU so I will also be taking Victemology and Crisis Management.
11 credit hours of class is what I took a year ago. Medical crisis considered I must continue on.
I'm rising daily and pray NicK finds the drive to thrive not just survive. :flower:
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
I'm sure even in Arizona that the "interest" cannot be - should not be - just any old interest at the whim of the one detaining which along with his identity he keeps a secret. Collective wisdom is that police have broad powers because they need them to do their jobs. It is no wisdom at all to suppose they cannot abuse them.tim wood

Abuse of power is, to some degree, in most government. You suggest that "even in Arizona" so I am not sure if you follow our State government, nor do I expect you to but detaining people for illegal reasons was a long standing order made by Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa county. Maybe you missed his first evil rein but he is running again so maybe you can watch it this time around.

And when do you get excited? When the one seized disappears? Maybe by then its too late, and maybe even you're next.tim wood
When do I get excited? Are you asking when I stand up against abuse of power? Or are you referring to the poem "First they came..." ?

And it's odd and ironic that for all the 2d amendment talk of guns to oppose tyranny, when real tyranny appears all those tough talkers shrivel up like dicks in a cold northern ocean.tim wood

I don't really understand why you said what I quoted above or how it relates to the discussion between you and I but if it makes you feel better, hey go for it. It's certainly not gaslighting nor do I get the shriveled up dick but again if it is your reality, go for it.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
The problem is that they're arresting people without identifying themselves or explaining the reason for the arrest. By Oregon law they need to do that, even if they don't then charge you with anything.Michael

Do you know for sure that those being detained are actually being arrested and charged with a crime? Or is it assumed if a person is being detained and questioned that they are automatically charged with a crime?

Update: not the most reliable source but I doubt it is completely fake. When I get to my PC I will research it more.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
I'm not sure what the national law is, if there is one. But here in Arizona @Michael law enforcement has 20 minutes in detaining you before they have to charge you with a crime or they have to let you go.
I'm not sure what the harm is in detaining a person of interest for the legal amount of time.

  • Why aren't more philosophers interested in Entrepreneurship?
Entrepreneurship consumes an incredible amount of time. Philosophy can consume a large amount of time. The two pursuits don't directly contribute to breakthroughs in the other.Adam's Off Ox

True it comsumes much of the same time (though I like to akin it to bandwidth) and energy that one person has to expend on their various aspects of their lives. When starting up a company that you hope will have agility and adaptability to withstand the curve balls life will those you, the bandwidth needed is huge and stratified. I don't know of a single successful entrapenuer that did not spend their early days, hyperfocused on the way to succeed no matter what stood in their way only to succeed to Level 1. Level 1 is a bit higher than start up mode with all the same responsibility, all the liability but your best skill is fire putter outter.
Once you reach Level 2 you can start to feel strong enough to bring on help and such goes careful and frugal movement.
At the heart of every company there is a philosopher, not the loud one that thinks they know what is happening, but it's usually the quieter one that sits at the right hand of the CEO.
I say this because the assistant to the CEO knows the philosophy that the company was founded on, and if as I said, we are talking about a successful entrapenuer, that person knew the philosophy they themselves were guided by to get them to where they are today.

And you had better stay that way lady. :wink:Sir2u

At times I crumble from my soul being so weary, for so long and I begin to question if the struggle is worth it. And when I find myself thinking that way, I remind myself that regardless of how many times I may go down, I will never let myself forget that my bounce back is strong as fuck.

Hmm I wonder if that isn't the mesh like fiber I encounter when mucking horseshit at a ranch up North that has an irrigation flooding system. The stuff has broken a plastic rake tine but does keep the soil burm from washing away allowing irrigation into the barn.

My Dad was a land planner and back in the day we traveled to AZ from IL to try to come up with an idea to help with soil erosion caused by water without plants holding it up on the mountain and highway banks. They came up with a straw filled, burlap coil that when tightly packed, expands as necessary but dries out as well. Those are still in use because they are light, you can drive stakes right through them, they gotta be fairly cheap and effective.

I'm going to show my Dad this technology because it will make him smile to know that there are people out there still trying to Curb Mother Nature. Thank you for the information :flower:

  • Coronavirus
These inaccuracies aren't limited to coranavirus, so why take such a hard line on coronavirus specifically. Are you generally opposed to medical science?Hanover

What I am trying to show is that there ARE accurate live COVID 19 tests that are capable of giving scientific results within minutes in the medical system but is not yet available to the general public.

Why do you think that is? Is a 24 to 48 hr turn around time for such results sufficient to help Jane public help herself and by doing so help others?

Anyway, you've not pointed out a danger to the vaccine, but only suggested it might not work.Hanover

The danger I was referring to (which may have never happened with any vaccines, I truly don't know) is any long term negative health affects.

Is there an inherent risk in letting people receive a COVID 19 vaccine that implies? Suggests? Promises? that they are immune against COVID 19 and it turns out to only cover 25% of the population? Would you have a family member over the age of 70 get the first version?
What about those who have comorbodites?
  • Coronavirus
    I don't believe in anyone's right to infect others.Hanover

That walks a fine line with this virus as antibody testing is inconclusive at best. Mutations happen and we could have a new virus before we have an antibody test sensitive enough to pick it up.

In the last two months Nick was tested multiple times for active COVID 19, with results available in minutes of the test being performed, negative each time.

However two antibody tests run on my Indian came back negative with a qualifier that it could be inaccurate. Suggestion from the Doctor is to try another lab in a month as the tests are constantly evolving.

Forgive me but I will let you go first in getting the vaccines?
