  • A little from the Gospel
That's actually from the Tenakh originally.
  • The Goal of Art
If a creation is not beautiful then it is not art. Then it is trash.
  • Is it moral to lie to a murderer?
That's funny because then she goes around in a dress that does not become her all because you lied to her. Not good. Not ethical either.
  • Vatican Republic, Catholic Political Party... nonsense or something that should exist?
Bad writing assumes things. When you assume your know what happens.
  • Mind-Body Problem
We won't know what the mind is compared with the body until we die and our bodies dissolve or vaporize back into their basic chemical elements and compounds. In the meantime such speculation is rather inaccurate.
  • The Goal of Art
That definition as given is flowery.

I would define art as anything made to look attractive to its viewer and to command a lot of money in trade.
  • Is Economics a Science?
Sounds like you do not appreciate Economics and probably did not take any such courses in college.

If you had taken such courses in college you would have learned that Economics can be subdivided into micro-economics (the economics of individuals and households) and macro-economics (the economics of nations and the world). International would fall under macro.

Since economics starts with data and observations and progresses to theories of behavior it is definitely a science. No question about it.
  • Wants and needs.
Cats are really smart too !!
  • Determinism and mathematical truth.
Whose definition of the term "truth" are you working from?

Aristotle defined truth as to say what is, that it is, and to say what is not, that it is not.

I know you have some definition in mind but your forgot to define it.
  • Vatican Republic, Catholic Political Party... nonsense or something that should exist?
The word church in English comes from a Germanic word which comes from the original ancient Greek word which means "of the Savior" however. There is no word in English for "the body of Christ" -- ekklesia (in Greek).
  • Vatican Republic, Catholic Political Party... nonsense or something that should exist?
There are so many churches that I would therefore highly recommend and suggest that you treat them all equally and not elevate one or the other by simply referring to it as "the Church." If you were in Athens Greece right now, "the Church" would be the Greek Orthodox Church. If you were in Salt Lake City Utah USA, "the Church" would be the Mormon Church.

Say rather "the Catholic Church" or "the Greek Orthodox Church" or "the Mormon Church" etc.

Everyone should believe in something. I believe I will have another drink.
  • Is it moral to lie to a murderer?
Parents teach their children to lie by spanking and/or beating them when they tell the truth. Adult men and women lie in order to snag each other into bed for amateur sex. Politicians lie to get you to vote for them. There is no end to lies. You can argue that the ends justify the means, but you cannot argue that lying is ethical. Lying is always unethical.
  • The matter of philosophy
I read Bertrand Russell's book and while I do not agree with his atheism and his dismissal of Aquinas I do agree with him that Philosophy must be separate from Science (which is an inductive/inference art taking data and observations and speculating about an overall rule related to it all) whereas Philosophy is pure human thought without any fallacies, prejudices, or contradictions.

Nice summary that you gave regarding the major philosophers. Thank you.
  • Empty names
I come to this forum to learn more about other people's views about philosophy. For example there are those who revere Plato. I myself do not however. I revere Aristotle more.
  • Empty names
Vodka is very popular with Russians and as a mixed drink, especially for American females. I think of vodka as a diluted ("cut") moonshine. While vodka can be up to 100 proof (50%) moonshine is 99% (198 proof).

Tequila has a distinct natural flavor to it which I like. I like gin also. It also has a distinct flavor to it.
  • Empty names
I don't think of you as a fictional character. I think of you as a living persona.
  • Empty names
How do you like my new avatar? It is a bottle of my favorite tequila!

    It denotes my personal motto:

    "Everyone should believe in something.
I believe I will have another drink."
  • Empty names
"hks" are my initials. Easy for me to remember. I was named after my father and grandfather. It is definitely not an empty name. Had I become a partner in a Wall Street Firm then my initials would denote me as a VIP in that company.

And Posty McPostface is your moniker. It is not empty.
  • Do we have the right to choose?
Freedom is always limited. It is limited to within your own personal space. You may not morally nor legally violate someone else's space or freedom with your own freedom. Once you do however you have committed two crimes, one against the state which is bound to protect the other's freedom and another against that person personally.
  • Is it moral to lie to a murderer?
I teach children and people not to lie. And if they are not comfortable telling the truth then don't say anything at all.

And there is a problem with your analogy because if there is a murderer at your door you should not answer the door. You should get your shotgun instead, make sure it is loaded, then call the police on your cell phone.
  • Empty names
A moniker refers to its antecedent.

So your name is not totally empty. It refers to you yourself.

You have simply chosen to rename yourself.

Aristotle is Anglicized for the Greek name Aristoteles, a man who lived and philosophized during the 4th Century B.C.E. In Greek it means "best of all" or more literally "best end". Aristo- was a common Greek prefix anciently. I do not particularly recall any other Aristotle's besides the philosopher.
  • Is It Time for Philosophy to Be Rewarded Better?
Philosophy should not be corrupted by money.

Philosophy grads are normally double-majors including another more practical lucrative field.
  • The Republic of Plato
That's somewhat of a major fallacy.
  • Thoughts on play
I play tennis when I get a chance. It serves the purpose of exercise and also the development and practice of skill. My favorite opponents are very close in skill to me. We split winning about half and half. Play also makes you forget the more stressful aspects of daily life. Like us, dogs and cats love to play also. So most if not all higher mammals share this in common.
  • Is The Mind Infinite?
In philosophy you always need to be careful about using only precise language. Philosophy is not a creative writing exercise with flowery language. Philosophy requires precision in wording and speech. Creative means creative and infinite means infinite, and n'ary the twain shall meet.
  • On depression, again.
Chronic depression is a biochemical disease. Like any other disease it requires medication.

The only medication I require is hay fever tablets. I take these fairly often because I am also allergic to cats, but I love my kitty. Their added benefit is that they act like sleeping pills so they help me to get to sleep immediately after work.

Sometimes if I drink too much wine I need a couple of aspirin for headaches. Headaches are caused by the toxic alcohols in wine and beer. Rum can cause headaches too. Multiple distillations such as with moonshine (Everclear) removes all the toxic alcohols in booze.

    That's it, for me.
  • Is The Mind Infinite?
Being trained in mathematics since elementary school, infinite to me means a sequence of anything that has no end. Such as outer space. As far as we can see with our telescopes, especially Hubble, space has no end.
  • On depression, again.
I simply do not get depressed. I was born with enough brain chemistry that depression does not affect me. This makes me an eternal optimist. And as a child my Catholic religious background taught me to love God (the God of St. Peter, St. Mark, St. Luke, and St. John) and not blame God for anything. In my latter life I have become a Deist and thus God is not to blame for anything and we should thank God for everything we have. Life is better than death. And death is inevitable so you might as well enjoy life for however long it last.
  • All Fallacies are Fallacious and Exist as Laws of Logic.
If you think really hard about it, emotion is the root of everything.
  • On depression, again.
I don't know of anyone who has "recovered".

They only cope. They do not recover.
  • Is The Mind Infinite?
I don't see anything infinite about that. Creative yes. Infinite no.
  • All Fallacies are Fallacious and Exist as Laws of Logic.
Logic and ethics also appeal to emotion -- the emotion of agreement.

But abusing emotions by appealing to fallacies is a crime of illogic.
  • An End To The God Debate
This sounds like mathematical bunk to me.

When I think of God I think of Aquinas' proofs. Not math.
  • On depression, again.
Self medication is a very dangerous game of playing doctor with your own body.
  • On depression, again.
You were resilient. That is a good thing. Somewhat rare too.
  • On depression, again.
Disability pay is a benefit from society that enables you to do just about anything you want or can. I knew a lady on disability with a similar chronic depression issue.

These are brain chemistry problems. Medication is the only solution.

Make the most of your life to the extent you can.

I would think you would be very good volunteering for pet rescue at PetSmart.

Cats and rabbits are such beautiful creatures that they are easy to fall in love with.
  • An End To The God Debate
Atheism is a belief system. It has fallacies like any other belief system.

God is not a number. But I know of several mathematicians and math teachers who believe It is.
  • On depression, again.
Mental illness is when you are so debilitated that you cannot leave your room for any reason.

Medicines are the only solution to this affliction.

Once you have the right medicines, then you can proceed with the next phase, which is becoming productive somehow.
  • On depression, again.
Coffee in the morning is a good stimulant to help get you going. Iced tea with your lunch and hot tea in the afternoon will help too. Once you get jump started then get out there and seek what you are looking for.

The most obvious way to help homeless people is to volunteer in the local soup kitchen. This may be a Catholic relief organization, but they accept non-Catholic volunteers too.

The most obvious way to help animals is go to your local PetSmart and volunteer with the kitties and rabbits there.
