This is our cover page on The Philosophy Forum Facebook page. I have been following this photographer for years and obtained written permission from him to post his work with credit given, which is such a deal I cannot tell you how in awe I am of him. His name is Sean Parker and he runs photography clinics around the world to photograph the Aurora Borealis and star trails. Mind blowing images and in so many you can see the Phoenix that rises from the ashes in the colors in the sky.

There was some speculation as to whether or not this will result in a movement and I came across a woman who put this revolution into perspective:

"As the day, and the show, went on, her other cohosts weighed in with Al Roker saying he was "still processing" while the newest addition to Today, Megyn Kelly, said that this one hit close to home, "But when this happens what we don’t see is the pain on the faces of those who found the courage to come forward, and it’s a terrifying thing to do. We are in the middle of a sea change in this country. An empowerment revolution. As painful as this moment is for so many here at NBC today, at CBS earlier this month, at Fox News over the last year, in Hollywood this fall, it is a sign of progress. Of women finding their voices, their courage and of the erosion of a shameful power imbalance that has been in place for far too long."

Call it what you will but the "sea change" or an "empowerment revolution" for women to come out of the shadows in regards to sexual harassment they have experienced on the job, is not something that is going to go away, there is no turning back to the way it was.

On my way back to the ranch. Pine trees, Pecan trees, horses and a beautiful person to spend a couple of days unwinding with. Waiting for me at the ranch is Nick, my puppies and my Mother in law. Monday will make it 4 weeks she has been in her Van down by the river. The time for a change in location is overdue. I need the seasons back in my life. (L)

Even though Arizona is known for it's 5 C's cattle, climate, cotton, copper and citrus, I would suggest that the biggest generator of revenue is tourism. Arizona is a year round destination and our hospitality and tourism industry is HUGE. We VERY much depend on people from around the world wanting to come to Arizona and spend their money lavishly on themselves. There are very few states in December that you can snow ski and water ski all in the same day. The older population (usually the well to do) come out for the weather and stay because of the lower cost of living and the amazing medical facilities. Whether a snowbird or a transplant, we depend on their consumption to survive and thrive.

Yippeee! I am heading North tomorrow morning! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! I need to immerse myself in the forest for a long time to wring out the stress of these past three weeks. My girlfriend has her fist Christmas tree up at their new cabin so I need to find the perfect ornament to bring as cabin warmer tomorrow. Oh and I looked at the Casino Shuttle pick up yesterday and it looks like I will be the youngest human on board so wish me a safe ride and I'll use a few of my betting dollars on "your" pull. Who knows? We might win a boatload of money! There is always a chance.... (Y)

We are on the best philosophy forum on the net and as it often does, it reflects what is going on in the society at large.
  • Is the workplace PRIMARILY a place for self-fulfillment or a harmful evil (maybe necessary)?
Having expectations of other people is kind of like playing the slot machines in Las Vegas. You can always hope, but you can never be sure which numbers will come upAurora

  • Is the workplace PRIMARILY a place for self-fulfillment or a harmful evil (maybe necessary)?
The problem most people have is their expectations of what they "deserve" and what they think they should be able to control/influence. Expectation is the root of all suffering. Drop it and see what happens.Aurora

What you have said is an ideology I embraced almost a decade ago and it has indeed made my life so much less volatile and much more peaceful. I dropped all (as many as I could see and since keep away from) expectations that I would impose on others and decided the only person I can really have any expectations of is myself. It has limited my disappointments in life to those I can chose to see inward rather than holding another accountable.

    @Sir2u
The sun isn't up but I have been up for hours. I have yet to get any response to my getting out of town after this weekend from either NicK or my Mother In Law and since by nature I am a person who believes in asking for permission rather than asking for forgiveness, I remain in limbo. Having said that NicK believes in asking for forgiveness, rather than permission.
What I am trying to say, is that I NEED someone to GIVE me permission, to get the flock outta town but only an hour away. I will be taking the Casino bus that happens to run the same route, $10 bucks for a ride both ways and $25 in Casino credit for me to gamble with.

If a joke is so bad that it harms people, it probably isn't a funny joke.WISDOMfromPO-MO

What determines if a joke is so bad that it "harms people"? What is the working definition of "harm" you are using?

"It's a fine line between, "You look nice today," "You look nice today" with a leering grin and an ogling chest-level stare, and “You look nice today” if you’re worried that not looking nice might cost you your job. Contextualizing a workplace conversation helps us determine what falls on which side of the harassment line, but it’s still a distinction that’s extremely difficult to articulate, and even harder to prove. A company can't control the actions or words of an individual employee. They can only set policies that create clear expectations of what is acceptable work behavior, and provide an easy, hassle-free avenue to address issues." -- Sexual Jokes And Lewd Conversations In The Workplace: Where's The Line?WISDOMfromPO-MO

This citation from Forbes article titled Sexual Jokes And Lewd Conversations In The Workplace: Where's The Line? is from 2012. I would be curious as to what the *updates have been in the years since, most importantly through the year 2017, which is quickly ending. If I were a betting person, I would place all my chips on a Revised Employee Manual for 2018.
  • Sometimes, girls, work banter really is just harmless fun — and it’s all about common sense
To be the butt of derogatory jokes is to be subject to ritual humiliation, and is part of the process and justification of 'endangerment'. Jokes are fake news, that rely on, and so reinforce, the acceptance of the unspoken stereotype. Jokes have always been at the heart of prejudice, bullying, and systematic oppression, as a glance at German Nazi propaganda will illustrate. and accusations of hypersensitivity and lack of sense of humour are just as commonplace accusations in defence of oppression.unenlightened
