• True Opposites??

The yin yang symbol also has a black circle around entire symbol indicating that Yang possess Yin?
  • Is Pi an exact number?

At least with 1/3 you poses all the information even if you can't write 3s forever. Or if you have a number system based on 6 instead of 10 it wouldn't need to go forever. Pi however can't be fully known. It is limited by our means to measure a circle physically or within a computer? It must be more of a concept than a certain thing?
  • True Opposites??

Your examples don't strictly speaking seem like opposites. Certainly the "woke" crowd would not consider gender to be strictly opposites. All females are not in perfect contrast with every male. Day and night is logically opposite I suppose because it depends on the earth turn which changes both together. Mind and body aren't opposite either as one controls the other and isn't as receprical.
  • Is Pi an exact number?
1 atom of hydrogen is exact, 2 atoms of hydrogen is exact. 4.6 atoms of hydrogen isn't exact because it no longer makes sense. An exact perfect circle can't be represented by an incomplete value of Pi?
  • Youth for longevity.
I also have a friend with ALS and MS. That wasn't true before age 35. It seems lots of stuff goes from rare to common at that age. And after 55 I've read our DNA breaks down much faster. The medicine of the future seems less and less like it will be in time.
  • Youth for longevity.

There is a mice study out of Stanford showing proof of concept towards regenerating cartilage. I hope that makes it to humans. Cartilage breaks down pretty slowly over life, but after it falls below a level it really lets bones get messes up.

It is good to have the experiences that come with time and age, but in a more tired body it seems like many of the lessons are less applicable.
  • Youth for longevity.

Osteoarthritis improved your pitching? How can that be? I had neck injury and have painful spurs that wake me up almost nightly. I hate all diseases that we're nowhere close to curing. I have known too many younger than me that needed dangerous painkillers to tolerate muscular/skeletal injury that damaged or perpetually presses on nerves.
  • Youth for longevity.

I'm 41 now. I have been a home aide aid for my mother whom suffered a stroke in 07'. Taking care of her has been tough on my health, and certainly makes me wonder why any of us suffer such traumatic events and others don't. She was relatively young when she had a stroke. My uncle died around 60 of cancer and a few months after that my grandmother died at 99. It rarely seems to make sense.
  • Infinites outside of math?

I am not interested in an infinite trip. I am asking about and infinite landscape. Only new information all the time.
  • Youth for longevity.

Technically our body and brain just finishes developing at 25, so that essentially is the start of adulthood. I suppose it can all vary wildly from person to person as far as energy and focus. I really burned out after 32, then at 35 the most stressful time (which is statistically on point). I just hate the idea of cardiovascular and cancer risks increasing exponentially with age. I just wonder what a solid healthy decade would be like and can't imagine getting a significant advantage even with 50 more years compared to all I'd want to try in life.
  • Infinites outside of math?

Do straight lines exist? And even if you traveled the earth forever you will see the same places more than once.
  • Infinites outside of math?

You mean because we can travel around a circle forever? I mean infinite more like if absolute coordinates existed we could go straight in one direction without reaching a limit.
  • Philosophy of the unknown?

I don't think so. Not something designed to deceive.
  • Philosophy of the unknown?

I mean ignorance. Where we assume too much about what we know. I could of swore I saw a philosopher on TV mentioning a discipline about the limitations of what we know.
  • "Surviving Death" Netflix Series Breakdown.
I know parapsychology isn't of interest to a lot of people, but I am curious what people think of this particular representation.
  • Black woman on Supreme Court

I agree. Glad at least Lindsay Gramm is on board with one potential candidate. Particularly since a Democrat senator had a stroke and will be not voting for a bit. I kind of wish there was no controversy with increasing the size of the court. Hopefully combined with a 20 year term instead of life.
  • "Surviving Death" Netflix Series Breakdown.

Certainly everyone is dying fast now on that show.
  • Black woman on Supreme Court

A white man identifying as a black woman? Cute.
  • Black woman on Supreme Court

What if the court was expanded along racial and gender lines to have at least one representative from all groups in proportion to their ratio in the general population? Might be a large number of people on the court, but at least representation wouldn't be a political football anymore?
  • Why do we do good?

I think most depression is more about the world than the self. Self worth would fall under esteem and confidence. I think plenty of artists can be deeply depressed and narcissistic.
  • Why do we do good?

Depressed people are less good? Not sure if I understand your argument. Pete Davidson certainly hasn't made the world better if that's your point? Lol
  • Word Counts?
It seems many people act as their own devil's advocate and quote too many things they read and it really fills up the space. Personally prefer people to use their own words.
  • What gives life meaning? Novelty or limitation?
Boredom can be a friend also. It offers better directions sometimes. Shorter term priorities.
  • Word Counts?
I know I don't need to read all replies, but I want to understand the points of view. And I expect some people may use speech to text apps and aren't putting in the full thought of actually considering every word that is written. And apparently a page here is decided by the number of replies. Not length of the page. It would be good to bookmark where I left off reading and know how long each page will run. I think brevity can be very important, and certainly the forum can decide the min and max of words. Perhaps the average worded reply can be the minimum and the maximum about double of that?
  • Why do we do good?

Doesn't giving our life meaning also self serving?
  • Why do we do good?

So being more intellectual equals more good and less instinct?
  • Why do we do good?
If one was to prove the existence of good wouldn't all other incentives need to be removed? We always seem to have many drives for practicality. We don't like over simplicity. But wouldn't we need to bare it if we are to truely be good without self or group serving incentives for evolutionary reasons?
  • Why do we do good?

We do things for the tribe because the tribe does for us? So what makes it good versus simply advantageous?
  • Why do we do good?

To impress those we like that they may stay in our lives?
  • what the hell should I do with my life?

Maybe visit a college and take an interest inventory test? Being a leader doesn't necessarily lead to happiness. And not being a leader doesn't make you a follower by default.
  • What really makes humans different from animals?

I hope we can find more intelligent beings. That might answer the question better than anything so far.
  • Are philosophy people weird?

Kind of feels like lots of people fear the big questions. They have trouble as we all do with the humdrum stuff so thinking about our significance as a people is just too much to think about.
  • Are philosophy people weird?
In particular how does one meet local people to talk to about big topics about morality and existence?
  • What really makes humans different from animals?
Is our intelligence uniquely better or just a magnitude of cognitive qualities greater?
  • Big Pharma and their reputation?

They do when corners are cut.
