A crowdsourcing platform is an organization that acquires freelance workers to complete an assigned task or projects. Freelancers are identified as self-employed and may often time need to acquire a business license of LLC to stay working.

In a crowdsourcing platform a bid is generated by the customer (payer) and individuals with the required skill set (provider) will submit a request for the bid. If the customer finds the provider adequate for the job the customer will accept his bid and give the provider the task/project at set rate and/or agreed upon reimbursement rate.

This type of crowdsourcing platforms is seen in action like Lyft, Uber, Doordash (Delievery services) from even professional platform like fieldnation, Work Market (Field service Engineering services) and for developers like (programming and website design) Turing.com

These platforms don't discriminate by credentials like employers do. In other word you don't need a degree or a certificate to submit a bid. Is based on reputation, quality of work and experience. The more successful you are in your trade and achieve a high satisfaction rates with the customers, the more bids will be provided to you. Bypassing the completive nature of interviews and applying for a job. So after you establish a foundation you can create your own business model as a independent contractor and depending on your skill sets it can become a very lucrative venture.

The question is why do we need W2 employer when it has become easier to be self-employed? Why are employers not getting it, that waiting for a Rockstar can cost a company a lot of money? Just waiting 3 months for a position to be filled can cost a organization 10 of thousands of dollars on QoS and supply and demand.

The question and the purpose of this post. Are crowdsourcing companies causing the unemployment rate to go up because we now have another option besides W2 employment? Will the employer need to rethink there strategy since the dynamics of how we see employment changed? Was the Covid-19 pandemic a motivating factor in the crowdsourcing movement?

    No. And no again.

No they don't need to rethink. Contract employment/self-employment has a much different commitment to an employer than an employee. It is this commitment, besides dependable skills, that set an employee apart (by employee, I mean the definition set forth by the employment bureau). And the employers know this.
