    Generically speaking.

There may be individuals who this does not apply to.

Anyway, it occurred to me a few nights ago that we recoil in horror at certain events and sights and avoid with disgust or disapproval certain environments while we drool over and ooh and aah over--and spend lots of resources to advertise, travel to, and take in--events, sights and environments that may be the same in character as the former. And with respect to the former we often ask, "If God exists why does he allow this to happen?", but we don't ever seem to ask the same about the latter.

In other words, we see destruction and loss of life in and feel horrified by that natural disaster we see reported on CNN, but then we plan months in advance to spend lots of time and money to travel long distances to visit some geologic or biological wonder that may be the result of destruction and loss of life--and when we return home we ooh and aah with family and friends over the pictures we took of it.

Or did continental drift; the formation of mountain ranges, beaches and lakes; the colonization of biomes; etc. not cause any destruction or loss of life and the latest hurricane on the TV screen 24/7 is an anomaly in nature that people are rational to view differently?
