    Does anyone feel like Walter Benjamin kind of lambasted the Surrealists in The Role of a Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction? He basically accuses the Surrealists of producing Fascist art. I was influenced by that text at a younger age, but, reading A Cavalier History of Surrealism provided me with a much different take on Surrealism.

    Max Ernst's works were identified as degenerate art by the Nazis. So no, not fascist.

    Leonora Carrington was the best one, imo.
