Framework Towards A Better Future:

By being better human beings today we choose to invest in a better world for tomorrow. This is the heart beat Mother Earth needs to hear and feel. In the end we are trying our best, keeping the light burning in each other as we embrace empathy. Helping each other, our shared humanity, is what truly defines who we are. Who you are? Showing us visions that strive for deeper meaning and inspiring a more beautiful future.

Our shared humanity is sustained by the empathy we choose to show one another every single day. This ultimately and actively fostering a better generation to strive for a more compassionate world towards the world and towards each other.

This empathy lays foundations for deeper connections, embracing diversity, the gift that strengthens our innovations.

One of the best gifts to humanity is diversity. Celebrate diversity as a strength that enriches our deeper collective consciousness. By accepting and embracing our differences, we fuel our collective strengths and struggles.

Active Listening: Engage with others' perspectives, without judgment, to build understanding and trust.

Small Acts of Kindness: Offer help or a kind word to strengthen community bonds. Small kindness holds the very principles of giving without needing anything in return. (Smallest lesson in life have the biggest effects when learned).

Cultural Curiosity: Learning about diverse cultures help deepen appreciation for our differences and builds stronger synapses.

Environmental Stewardship: Make sustainable choices to honor Mother Earth's heartbeat.

These ideas are not much different from the inclusive homilies that make up the value statements of so many not-for-profit organizations. I don't radically disagree with much however they seem to be a standard issue progressive position.

What the hell is 'Mother Earth'? Why use this anthropomorphism? It's not something I would personally relate to. I find this cloying and sentimental.

What is your idea of a better human being? The Nazis and the Communists all had their notions of this, so it's almost without shape until it's carefully articulated.

Empathy? What about those without it? You can't tell someone without something to have it. I guess the assumption here would be that we all have universal empathy and that in some way this is essential to the human. I'm not convinced.

Well mass murder and war are also venerable and central to the human. Your view is a communitarian position, have you read any Michael Sandel? He takes this sentiment, refines it, and puts a bow on top.

Many people who take a secular position put the flourishing of conscious creatures as central and argue that as a social species humans have an incentive to respect each other. Reciprocal altruism.

People in different areas have had to face different circumstances and challenges. Desert nomads know how to live under conditions that would kill people of a fishing village, and vice versa. What challenges can they solve by combining their ways and knowledge?

I think you are reifying empathy a bit much. “Collective consciousness” and the “heartbeat of Mother Earth” sound like a new religion. Is this what you meant to conjure up?

But I feel how big it all is too.

Aren’t we lucky to be alive today? It’s too late for me - I will forever be grateful. I have great hope too. Let’s take all of the shit, and show what great works we can do with it!

Your passion for empathy and dreams of a better world is the spark that ignites hearts. Yes, Tom and the guys find fault, but it's like a whetstone for your ideas - makes them sharper! Try to add specifics: instead of "Mother Earth," tell us how, for example, joint projects of local communities can really change something. Small steps, like those good deeds that you wrote about - this is the way to big. Keep shining, we are all here for a better future, just each in its own way!

Another Idea is that people stay in the Bourdieuan habitat where they know the rules of that playfield and work with what they do best. An idea proven successful. Granted, not as easy now to make that work with the global economy (capitalism, if you like that better), but a system worth keeping, fosters a reliable and bullshit free culture.

This is supposedly in line with what working class and lower middle class people do prefer, in comparison with the suggestions of OP, which is more in line with the ideas of progressive people of more prosperous beginnings.

Good post. As a registered Democrat here in the US, what you’ve written is in line with my criticism of the party. We’ve lost contact with our purpose.

I hadn’t heard of Bourdieu. Sounds interesting. Any particular recommendation?
