In prisons, fights between different races are the biggest problem. The penal system tried to solve the problem by putting people in solitary confinement. This is illegal, and after several suits the prison system had to stop putting people in solitary merely to prevent racial violence.

Someone suggested that we segregate the prisons. If different races were in different prisons then they would not be capable of race on race violence.

I thing segregating prisons is wrong.

In a normal prison, different races can discover each other, and make lasting bonds. It is unfair to assume that these bonds might involve committing crimes together after their release..

Who could deny violent criminals the opportunity to meet people of different races and cultures?

Has anyone seen the "Shawshank Redemption"? In prison, white people and black people can become good friends, which is special. Who would deny that?

Merely removing all opportunities for racial violence in prisons will not prevent all prison violence. We should not solve one problem if it doesn't solve all problems.
