  • Are women generally submissive to men?
Yes, it is most certainly true that our feelings change very frequently. I agree. Just do not assume that because one has seen from experiences that most women are mostly gentle that they all are, or that most men are generally aggressive. I try to understand people for their individual traits, not just what everyone says they should beLone Wolf

The path to her success is paved with unconditional love and support, although Wosret is perfectly correct in not accepting that duty if he doesn't want to.Hanover

From the shoutbox it looks like Wosret is seriously considering accepting the duty, at least giving her the best shot he can~
Now how to not be a sibling but moving into a guidance role...that is going to be the first hurdle. Truthfully, can't say I know how to do that other than bearing my own Indians to shape.
  • Parenting...
I really need her to start being honest with me... but I fear that having never even seen such a thing before, that she may not even be able to tell the difference at the moment, and that's going to take a lot of work.Wosret

If you show her honesty both good and bad, she might be able to see her way through to not lying, maybe not now but when she is ready to give up lying. The problem with someone that uses dishonesty as their weapon of choice is how effective it has been in their lives and it sounds like outside of you, dishonesty has served her well in getting out of where she didn't want to be. I hope she sees her way out but be careful yourself. I was once told that you cannot save a drowning man if you yourself are treading water. So never forget about self preservation as you offer yourself and your time, to your sister.
Wosret, you are proving to be more of a gentleman than I could ever have imagined. Stepping up to be a help to your sister, to the degree you have is inspiring. (L)
  • Parenting...
    Yeah, thanks guysWosret

You sound a bit overwhelmed for our usual Wos~ One other tip I learned that might help in defusing a situation is to bring your voice almost down to a whisper when the other person begins to raise their voice or yell. It causes two things: first it brings down the temperature of the discussion AND they have to stop yelling to hear what you are saying, so for a moment they are forcing themselves to calm down a bit.
Try it and don't give up. But as a female who has been 15 before, we do believe we know it all and you older folks don't get it. Some of us get over it and others use it for a lifetime.
  • Parenting...
Wosret, I have only known one cutter who also is a female and has artistic traits and I always keep her in mind when I read about others who deal with the cutting demon. One of the greatest coping tools I have seen is body Marker Tattooing instead. I can see it being exceptionally effective as 'coloring' has been shown to reduce your stress, focus on 'nothingness' and the instant gratification that if she wants to share, will draw positive attention not negatively affecting her body.

While I realize it is not a solution to cutting, I think it is a healthier coping tool.

  • The Anger Thread
More controversial, perhaps, is [Aristotle's] idea (in which, however, all Western philosophers who write about anger concur) that the angry person wants some type of payback, and that this is a conceptual part of what anger is. In other words, if you don’t want some type of payback, your emotion is something else (grief, perhaps), but not really anger.

Aristotle's Challenge on Anger is pretty clear as to how proportionality is fundamental in how he approaches anger. Aristotle's challenge on Anger is that to become Angry is easy. But to be angry at the right person, at the right time, for the right reason, to the right degree, that is not so easy. So before one easily angers, it helps to put your reasons for the anger up to Aristotle's challenge and see if it passes. I have only once been able to satisfy Aristotle's challenge and allowed myself to be genuinely angry and I have yet to be able to or want to forgive that person.

  • An outline of reality
What we imagine, exists in our minds, as thoughts or mental images. But if we imagine that some thing exists in some place in external reality where it doesn't exist, then this thing is not consistent. It may seem consistent to us because we don't know all the details of that thing or of its environment. But the thing is inconsistent, because we attribute it existence where it doesn't exist.litewave

If I can offer up a simple, yet effective way of compartmentalize what reality is (for me) and maybe you can entertain my idea.
Reality is made up of our perceptions. If we want to change our reality, we need to first change our own perceptions. Once we change our perceptions, we change our reality.
  • Wiser Words Have Never Been Spoken
Like those people who audition for a singing competition but they sound like a dying horse need to be told that they won't get far in life as a singer, sometimes there are people who have a rather awkward intellect that need to be told that perhaps they should try dabbling in something less intellectually vigorous, like new age spirituality. It may just be that you unfortunately got caught in between, brush your shoulders off and move on.TimeLine
This made me laugh, relate and take note of how to move on through today. (Y)
  • What criteria do the mods use?
Why does it matter? It can be a bit of a shock to your ego unless you - like myself - post certain things knowing that it could be deleted and then smile when it happens.TimeLine

    Exactly.
I should have known better than to derail the thread in trying to correct a grammatical error that in the end wasn't an error. I could have walked away but no, I had to continue to play with the language about the piece of pie. But it was meant in fun, I meant no harm and the word play actually alleviated the stress I am under (none of which should matter to my TPF family but having my Mother in law staying with us is enough said) if even just for a moment.
So Thank you Sapientia for cleaning up after I was playing in the thread. I will try to keep that thought play in the lounge.

  • Life is a pain in the ass
When I encounter someone who has a "Life is a pain in the ass attitude" I genuinely try to change their attitude about it, at least while around me. The negative attitude is like a parasite on a healthy being and negative attitudes osmosis into those around them if they allow.
My ex-fiancé used to say "Life's a bitch and then you die" which was a catch phrase back in the late 80's but that attitude was his mantra and I got tired of trying to swim upstream to change him. It wasn't too far after that, that he said, you deserve better than me. Which true or not was one hell of a statement coming from him.
  • So what's going on with the US and Russia?
The evidence (of obstruction) is his remarks to the Russian ambassadors and Lester Holt (and Comey's memo). My point is that it's hard not to judge him as guilty given this evidence.Michael
How are Trumps remarks to the Russian ambassadors any different than when Obama was caught on a hot microphone talking to none other than the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev? It's all hustle whether it is in private or caught in the light of day.
  • So what's going on with the US and Russia?
The thing to remember is that the investigation into collusion is directed at the Trump campaign, and not Trump himself. It's entirely possible that there was collusion but that Trump was oblivious to it.Michael
I believe that Trump could have been oblivious to any collusion going on in his campaign as well.

But, of course, Trump hasn't done himself any favours by seemingly obstructing justice. It's hard to not to see him as guilty of that given his remarks to the Russian ambassadors and Lester Holt about firing Comey.Michael

Yes but "to see him as guilty" is a far cry from evidence of obstruction or collusion.
  • So what's going on with the US and Russia?
Everybody is just waiting to see what the investigation brings to light.Mongrel

Meh, I am pretty sure that many "are not waiting to see what the investigation brings to light". Some have already got him tried, convicted and are only waiting for the sentencing phase.

Heaven help us if Trump actually has his rights respected of being innocent until proven guilty and that 'proof' never comes.

  • Nuclear war
You probably object to my characterisation, but that is surely how it looks from the other side, it and goes a long way to explain the level of paranoia. I wonder what would happen if all troops were withdrawn from the border, and N. Korea was allowed to invade the south. It would be messy, but it would totally destroy the propaganda that the North has been using to control its own people. I don't think the regime would survive its own successunenlightened

You might be pleasantly surprised to hear that when I explained our two positions to my tribe, the two young Indians were willing to process through our ideas and they both said that your idea had quite a bit of merit.

Their position being; that your position upholds the idea, that they are not as willing to fight on foreign land as their parents and Grands were willing to do. My Indians would not participate in a draft and neither of them fear what the government might do to them if they refuse to go to war.

So they said yes, it would in deed be messy for us to just pull out of the South Korea and the DMZ and my youngest began listing off all of the companies that are located in South Korea and the world wide ramifications if that became unstable.

To which I suggested that it is the fear of losing everything that makes you willing to stand up and fight for what you have and that attitude would flourish in the South and the North would not have that fire in their gut to rise back up for their independence.

Having said that, is it vain for me to be concerned about the shock waves of insecurity, it would send through every military partner the USA has in the world?
  • Nuclear war
I think there might be some small space between the two, a middle ground. Perhaps preemptive food parcels, or a task force of electricians and plumbers to improve the sanitation and power supply. If we did these things in the places that would welcome them first, and then tried to impose them on paranoid and violent states later, our kindness would be more believable, and our leadership more acceptable.unenlightened

un, at times you seem to take my/a utopian approach to a reality that just doesn't reflect the current state of affairs. I say this in a loving way because I too wish to have kindness and peace in the world. But un, my mentor, my sage, we the USA have been doing all that you speak of, for those in South Korea and our own soldiers there on the 38th parallel since 1953. How much longer should we try to convince North Korea to try letting us help their nation?
South Korea has what some say is a "Miraculous Democracy" and I would say that is a positive society. But I don't believe that North Korea WANTS it's citizens to know about all the modern ways of life like electricity and plumbers. Because that would encourage FREE thought and FREE will and that does not seem to be their leaders goal. We cannot impose FREE will on another nation that is unwilling to give that back to it's citizens. No one can impose FREE will on another, rather it might be better to take the boot off their necks and just let them breathe.

  • Is there any value to honesty?
I have a different opinion than others. Sometimes you need to be dishonest to be honest. Being honest every time may not produce results for you.Richard Thompson

Maybe, but your dishonesty impacts more than just what "results" are produced for you. What about the results that are produced within the person you are lying to?

My Mother In Law was shocked to find out that it was going to cost a pretty coin to make this conversion and has decided to just live in her Conversion van, to which I said only for this one season, as it is mid March and it was 88* yesterday and she is not leaving for CO or WA until the end of May. HOW do I not let her come back without a plan?
Mental gymnastics that leaves me spinning and wondering why the fuck am I the one that is so worried about her having a plan? Oh yeah because NicK and I have been happily married for 23 years/living together for 27 years and as I expressed to him, she cannot move into the house when the kids move out because it is either her or me, I just cannot do it. He said "Then she better formulate a plan."

  • Why are people so convinced there is nothing after death?
For the question was presented, what happens to the body, mind and soul after death ?ElicitToxicity
The body and the mind are simply the 'vessel' to carry our soul in, as it exists in the reality you see and interact in around you. After your body and mind cease living, your soul continues on, in another form of energy, which is not always visible to those still living.
