    I'd say the c99% of all extinct species (with complex nervous systems) might have suffered more than h. sapiens to the degree suffering had killed them off. I'm convinced most mammals are natally bonded via degrees of suffering. Also, 'metacognition' is an artifact of a fortuitous aptitude for linguistic abstraction that facilitates collaborative simulations of (scheming for) multiple scenarios without (or with less) suffering.

    Yes, of course. I can't think of anything more "unpleasant" (i.e. enslaving) than a totalitarian "meaning of life". Besides, "the afterlife" only kicks the can by begging the question of the "meaning of the afterlife."

    NB: The only ultimate answer to the ultimate Why-question that does not beg the question is that there is no ultimate answer, especially for proximate beings like us. The meaning of a song comes in losing oneself – one's worries, sadness or fears – while singing it and not that the song ends. The journey is the destination suffices. :fire:

    When one suffers purposefully, psychologically one correlates suffering's purpose with the simultaneously acquired adaptive habit's "inherent value".

    One suffers doubly whenever one suffers without *purpose.
    Thus, "value" is manifested by habits (virtues) which reduce net suffering (disvalue).

Lemaître's conjecture. There's nothing "obscure" in my post to the philosophically and scientifically literate. I'd go an even a further step way back to a millenium before the Christian hegemony (beginning with the Dark Ages) and point out that Democritus speculates this (in sum): the universe came to be as a complex assembly of swirling atoms that is also disassembling and possibly recombing into other universes (c5th century BCE). Never heard of Democritus? or atomic cosmogenesis? or classical atomism? :lol:

    You need to read better translations or Freddy's lyrical German prose. Artie's writings are less lyrical German composed in a Humean style but, IMO, they possess no greater clarity or expressive power than Freddy''s; however, they have the advantage of being more explicitly, or closely, reasoned than Freddy's aphoristic & essayistic works. If you don't read German, very good English translations are indepensible.
