  • Life, philosophy and means of livelihood
Too bad procrastination wasn't a viable career, eh? We'd all be saved.
  • I want to kill myself even though I'm not depressed.

I ain't gots no words of wisdom, unfortunately. I have always liked the idea though, of another crucified soul telling you to cheer up.
  • My psychosis theory
Three different professionals at three different times in my life told me I'm not crazy. So there!

They instead clarified that that was an unfortunate term, and that "lunatic", or "patrick swayze" were more compassionate terms.

Yeah, that's my perception as well. Besides like Boston, Southern, and such accents, most Americans don't sound like they have any accents to me (or, just sound the same as pretty much everyone else in north america).
  • Spaceship Earth
"The last thoughts of the Geostigma's death. Those remnants will join the Lifestream and girdle the planet. Choking it... corroding it. What I want, Cloud, is to sail the darkness of the cosmos with this planet as my vessel, just as my mother did long ago. Then one day we'll find a new planet. And on its soil, we'll create a shining future." - Sephiroth.

Funnily enough also, my understanding is that when teaching English as a second language abroad, American English is preferred, and Canadians get a pass!

Newfoundlanders and the French are really the only accents in Canada. I worked with a Newfie once, and I asked him what my accent sounded like, but he said that most other people don't really have accents, they just sound really clear, like people on tv. There are subtle things, people sometimes pick out that I'm from the east coast, but I don't notice any difference in accent out west, people do talk differently, but don't really sound differently, I don't think.
  • Abstract numbers
Quite telling that Hardy admitted that he couldn't explain the kids math skillz, that clearly necessitates that a divine otherworldly being is responsible. The implication being not that Hardy could come up with no other logically possible explanation, but rather a more plausible one. That is the only thing that renders this suggestion sensible -- but unfortunately also ridiculous. Presumably lots of explanations, whether true false, or ridiculous sounding to people that hold different values and authorities as paramount, would be available to Hardy. He could probably even think of some stupid ideas he'd still think more plausible than magic, but still obviously false.

Canada officially has no nuclear weapons, but we firstly, have the best uranium refinement method (national secret, known to every Canadian, just in case), and make everyone else's, and have the most raw material to fashion the most nuclear weapons lying around out of any other nation.

Don't think lightly of the Dragoons, they have like super secret special training with Wayne Gretzky.
  • Spaceship Earth
Nope, nope. Intentional act of war. The Chinese have always wanted our spices...
  • We have no free will
No, you did in fact decide whether or not you liked tomatoes (which I'm extrapolating from "preference" which tends to indicate that you rather one thing over another. You may prefer a kick in the crotch to a stab in the chest, but that doesn't mean that you like either one of them at all), because one day you had one, and decided it then, and no one jumped out at you and demanded you like or dislike them, nor is it the law or anything. That is what makes it up to you. The stuff you're saying is nonsense.
  • Spaceship Earth
What about China's shit ass space station probably going to fall out of the sky and hit Canada next year! I say world war three is in order.
  • One's Self
    I am sent from dream
A person of no wants or desires

    I go unseen
A creature with no emotional fires

    I pass time by
a being with no life or age

    I cannot cry
An entity without love or rage

    I have no face
A ghost without home or relation

    I cannot embrace
An apparition without touch or sensation

    I cannot resist
    A thing of human creation

    I do not exist
A personification of our lack of perfection.
  • One's Self

Not really. More like responding to the question "what's dancing?" by doing a jig.
  • One's Self
    Thus.
  • Wtf is feminism these days?!
    This thread triggers me.
  • Punishment for Adultery
You know, interesting factoid! You know how a bunch of different species of birds mate for life? Well since that advent of genetics we now know that more than half of the species they preciously thought to be monogamous cheat. So discreetly that no one apparently even observed it until they knew it was happening based on the genetics of offspring.
  • The Buddhist conception of the Self
Yeah those guys sure are obsessed with themselves. If you asked me who I was generally the context would indicate which kind of response would be appropriate and sufficient, like my name, occupation or what have you. Usually when none of that applies and they mean some special creamy you center in some indexical correspondence or immaterial spiritual animating force, then whatever else that follows isn't going to be interesting.
  • Punishment for Adultery

That's true, made up for it.
  • Punishment for Adultery
I was raised in a broken home, and look how I turned out!
  • Is asceticism insulting?
The ascentic is like the Final Form of the narcissist. In this state they have become unsurpassably lovable, and God's favorite. Nanananana hahahahaha.

Classical music is objectively worse than what I like, and oh yes, most definitely anyone that listens to it is advertising something about themselves rather than genuinely relating to, and being absorbed by it. Sure plenty pretend to like all kinds of things for the purposes of saying something about themselves, rather than genuine enjoyment, and enjoyment can be cultivated and developed over time. Surely those that stayed to it, and kept listening to it despite the pain, developed an awkward taste for it.

Surely at one time a lot of people really loved it, because there wasn't anything better around.

They're more just in the way than anything. No one is more useless. They have to talk about how unthreatening, peaceful, and all things good and put up withable they are because they're so god damn useless that they had better be.
  • Mysticism
I look at magic people like I do spontaneous generation and determinism. Sure, I haven't observed every single animals birth, or anything, but I am fairly certain they all had parents, precursors, and not a single one of them popped into existence all from nothing like. Similarly with people, I assume that all of them are full of shit know nothings just like me, and none of them are magic. It's axiomatic, deductive.

    No men are magic
    Socrates was a man
    Socrates wasn't magic.
  • Mysticism
I know that I'm probably magic, and at least defy logic, as I am both simultaneously hot, and cool. :D

I had a mystic experience once, it was really awesome and I wanted to have another one right away, but I couldn't afford to until like a week later :(
  • How totalitarian does this forum really need to be?
The truth is that I'm secretly in charge, all behind the scenes and such. It's so secret in fact, that even at the highest levels they aren't aware of it.

    What did you think?
  • TPF Quote Cabinet

Yeah, the killing joke, I was watching it and had to share that sweet quotable. Has kind of mixed reviews, but I thought it was pretty good.

"Memories are what our reason is based on, to deny them is to deny reason itself. Although, what's wrong with that, really? It's not like we're contractually tied down to rationality. There is no "sanity clause". So when you find yourself locked onto an unpleasant train of thought headed for places in your past where the screaming is unavoidable, remember this: there's always madness". - The Joker.
  • Talking with a killer
I'd have to meet to convince him that murder was wrong. I know that he already thinks that it is, I just have to make him realize, and admit it.

Once I proceed to murder him, he'll be all like "aaah, no! Stop murdering me! Murder is wrong when it's me!". I'll then nod with approval, before I finish murdering him, because fuck that guy, amirite?
  • Should people be liberated from error?

"NIXON: But it's not just the ratty part of town. The upper class in San Francisco is that way. The Bohemian Grove, which I attend from time to time--it is the most faggy goddamned thing you could ever imagine, with that San Francisco crowd. I can't shake hands with anybody from San Francisco.

Decorators. They got to do something. But we don't have to glorify it. You know one of the reasons fashions have made women look so terrible is because the goddamned designers hate women. Designers taking it out on the women. Now they're trying to get some more sexy things coming on again.

    EHRLICHMAN: Hot pants.

    NIXON: Jesus Christ."

I didn't make t up. From his recordings.
  • Should people be liberated from error?
Only because Nixon saw through the homosexual agenda to dominate the fashion industry, and fool women into wearing ridiculous things making them less appealing, and less attractive.

  • Is ignorance an absolute?
While technically correct, not really a big deal in my view. Most things aren't worth knowing, most details are insignificant, unimportant, adds nothing of consequence. Sure, there are plenty of things that I don't know that I'd like to, but the ones people go on about makes up a list of like ten things tops -- and there may be many things that I don't know that I know that I want to know but don't, or whatever, but it certainly isn't an indiscriminate list that wouldn't be satisfied with any less than omniscience perfect knowledge of every single thing. It would be a fairly short list.

They were probably Russian spies and those were just their secret identities while they infiltrated the CIA, but now they're done.
