  • Introducing myself ... and something else
"Those who must convince everyone that their religion, ideology, political persuasion, or philosophical theory is the only one worth having." This would explain why you are having so much trouble here. This thread is long but I wouldn't interpret that as popular.Monitor

    Good reply  :100:
  • Transhumanism: Treating death as a problem

Dear friends, I want to quote and share this phrase of Yukio Mishima. (三島 由紀夫) with you:

The Japanese have always been a people with a severe awareness of death. But the Japanese concept of death is pure and clear, and in that sense it is different from death as something disgusting and terrible as it is perceived by Westerners. :death: :fire:
  • Transhumanism: Treating death as a problem

Bret, I am jealous of how you see the life of long term distance. I am more existentialist (Kierkegaardian) on my own.
I think life is liveable when it is really worthy. It not depends on life expectancy
  • Transhumanism: Treating death as a problem
I'm not a romantic or nearly as nostalgic as you seem to be180 Proof

Oh! But nostalgia is one of the most beautiful feelings of humans ever. It seems to be poetic and philosophical. Remember the classic Latin phrase: tempus fugit :flower:
  • Introducing myself ... and something else

I was not referring to God. I was speaking about the entity itself. This is why I guess it is better formulated as: "How can I find out one?" in the sense of finding "something" or "someone".
I was not referring to God as the "one"

No, your second sentence is wrongJoe Mello

Why? Excuse me, with all my purest respect, are you an English professor or linguist?
  • Introducing myself ... and something else
It’s amazing how lazy selfish humans in love with themselves don’t see how the love of God alludes themJoe Mello

I do not see any proof of God's love in myself. How can I find out one?
Did I write properly this time or should I proofread something?

    Oil and gold prices jump
Oh yes, this is another collateral effect we will suffer in the coming months. Russia (cleverly) always plays the same card. It is unbelievable. You cannot make a "great" economic impact against them if they still have the key of modern natural resources. What do you do without Gas and Oil in your State? Nothing...
  • Ukraine Crisis
But there is no guarantee of that, obviously.Janus

That's true. We do not have a guarantee that nuclear weapons will not be used. But, really, I do not see a worthy world which has been destroyed due to a nuke world.
If Putin wants to "re-establish" Soviet republics, they have to literally exist in the first place

what else do you do with your time?Book273

Most of the people don't know how to avail time. They are always wasting it on worthless things. Another paradox: feeling timeless could lead us to not use the time properly.
  • Ukraine Crisis

Most of the people are surrounded towards him because of fear. It is not as easy as we are debating both you and here in The Philosophy Forum. Probably, Putin was always clever enough to build up a fear atmosphere where nobody has the courage to go against him
  • Ukraine Crisis

That's sounds pretty difficult. Remember that Putin was a KGB member so he knows all the cheats and tricks inside a State. He is surrounded by closer oligarchy friends who would help him anyways, because they got all the wealth thanks to him.
The only way to end with Putin era is on Russian people's shoulders. I know it sounds impossible but the only way of getting rid of a ruler is in a real revolution with the citizens as protagonists

I just checked in Google and there is a Spanish editorial which translated all her works. I would give a try in one of her works

Can people finally understand why Putin is a fucking threat and needs to be put down?Christoffer

Yes, Putin is clearly a mad man who needs to be put down.

But... which is the main goal of having nuclear weapons? I do not see the value of having a destroyed world. Then, I do not see any powerful country interested on using them.
  • Transhumanism: Treating death as a problem

Even the idea of not dying can lead us to have suicidal thoughts due to their paradox. When you are aware that our life is limited you tend to value it more

  • Infinity & Nonphysicalism

What about consider the concept of infinity with the idea of time? Some mathematicians say that infinity itself does not exist in "real/physical" world, so closer to the idea and guessworks we have about time.
Then, if we accept infinity as a nonphysical matter, it would be connected to the idea of "timeless" proporties. Those which tend to be in a loop without caducity.
  • Ayn Rand's Self-Sainted Selfishness

I don't even know who is Ayn Rand. I feel pretty ignorant right now...
  • Is consciousness, or the mind, merely an ‘illusion’?

All you have written about awareness is pretty interesting. I never seen consciousness as merely scientific thing. I think is one of the best proofs which shows the human's existence: I think, therefore I exist.
Descartes was clever figuring out this theory. Probably what is all around me is fake, but what I do not have any doubt is about my own existence thanks to consciousness. Sometimes it feels like the world around us is made about our interpretation but it is difficult to point what is real or fake.
It would be so interesting if one day science can discover the quantification of consciousness. But, first of all, we should ask the next question then:
    Is consciousness quantifiable?
  • Does systemic racism exist in the US?

If you don't mind I would put in the line of the sand another countries from Asian world as Japan or China. It is pretty common there that the relationships or success depend on how you look like and then, can affect your expectations in the system. This issue is called Face (sociological concept).p, so is more common than you think around the earth.
I think this place is the first step to beat something against racism. The structure of a system should not have that kind of differences among individuals.
  • Does systemic racism exist in the US?

Systematic racism exists everywhere. Keep in mind that is pretty common to have prejudices in others according to their race or ethnicities.
I think this is not about how extended this topic is but a big problem which needs a solution.

Hello NOS, thank you so much for clarifying me all my wonderings and take part of your time to answer me. I understand it more clearly now.
I always heard since 2014 that Ukraine has been surrounded by "neonazis" militias but I never thought it would be so deeply.
  • Is depression the default human state?
    1. Too damned busy to be sad. For instance, does a soldier have time to mourn the loss of a comrade in the thick of battle?

Sadness and depression are not necessarily correlated. I am disagree with you in the aspect that work or being busy isolate you from depression. This is the big issue. When you are caught up by depression you don't feel with the animus to keep doing something, thus, being occupied.
Depression is a complex state of kind that goes further than just sadness
  • Material Numbers

I think the OP is referring to an argument where numbers are represented by a physical/material concept, not a metaphysical one. At least, he said Wittgenstein had some arguments in this points

Agree, this one of the aspects I do not like about so called "historians" with all my deepest respect. They write their thesis or theories are clearly so political. In this context, it is difficult to believe what's is going on because they forget an objective analysis

Why Swedish? (I am asking with good faith because I saw your point very interesting). I thought both Russian and Ukranian citizens felt closer due to their Slavic roots
  • Is depression the default human state?
Is depression a deeper more complex state that expands the mind more?TiredThinker

Definitely yes. To be honest with you I honestly think that depression is one of the most lethal illnesses in our modern Era. It is sad how many people end their lives so easily because they suffer from depression. When we see someone being suffering from of depression we should help them.
But what can we do? Are the medical drugs necessary on this issue?

  • Introducing myself ... and something else

What should I proofread? Was my phrase out of sense/context? This is the first time I ever received in this forum. Please tell me because I always want to improve.
It is no easy when you mix two languages in your mind writing about difficult aspects as philosophy.
But, anyways, it is interesting what you said to me because I passed exams in my school and university and I never been told anything related to proofread my sense or writings.
It is true that sometimes I do not know what word use because we are debating about aspects with a complex vocabulary.
