I see. Which is to say there's no such thing as mental illness in animals, oui mon ami?
  • Does quantum physics say nothing is real?
Actually he says he doesn't believe other people don't exist. — Darkneos

So other people exist as per whoever "he" is!

I don't want to upset your apple cart mon ami.

democracy can be tyrannical — Hanover

    Indeed it can be!

so I am not mistaken? — Nickolasgaspar

    No, good job!
  • Does quantum physics say nothing is real?
Actually after talking with the guy who made that quote I've found he has no idea what he's talking about. — Darkneos

So, we're on the same page, mon ami?

    There is a problem, no?

Q: What do you think about David Cameron?

A: He doesn't make me think.

You have a point of course - atheism is more phikosophical than theism.
  • Philoso-psychiatry
How come there are no documented cases of insanity in wild animals? Also, there are no animal philosophers.
  • What does "real" mean?
Always found it interesting that the creator of the most ruthlessly rational figure in fiction was himself a flake. — Tom Storm

I don't know how to explain that.
  • What does "real" mean?
Curiously Sherlock Holmes creator, AC Doyle, did believe in fairies in a rather notorious episode of credulity. The Cottingley Fairies hoax of 1917 — Tom Storm

True that. I completely forgot, but perhaps my subconscious didn't. Muchas gracias.
  • Demarcating theology, or, what not to post to Philosophy of Religion
changing our perspective on theology could never render it part of a true philosophical inquiry. What defines a philosophical inquire is wisdom and no one has ever become wiser about the the world by studying theology. On the contrary.... — Nickolasgaspar

There I think you're mistaken, but to be fair to you theology can be quite antiphilosophical.
  • The Futility of the idea of “True Christian Doctrine”
    Oh, yes. Fascism as well.

Stalin, it seems, was very intelligent and well educated for his time and place. He was also a poet, or he wrote poetry in any case. What would Plato, that Original Totalitarian (OT) but scolder of poets, have to say about that? Perhaps Stalin was the philosopher-king Plato longed for all those years ago. Or perhaps Hitler, the artist.

Certainty is the death of thought, and tolerance, and justice, and mercy, and.....
    — Ciceronianus

    True mon ami, true!

The reason God isn't real is not because He doesn't exist!
  • Form Versus Function in Art
    ↪Noble Dust
    Danke!

Well, 'tis true, some functions have a duration, a time limit as it were and beyond that all that remains is to study the forms employed. As far as I can tell forms analysis is more challenging of the two given what is likely mountains of data which we have to sift through.
  • What does "real" mean?
    ↪Bitter Crank
Ok. Create a list of what you believe is real and unreal things for my benefit then; also I merely mentioned what is widely held to be true.
  • Form Versus Function in Art
Once function is exhausted, form becomes primary, and this seems to always signify the death of that movement. — Noble Dust

    An example ... please.
  • Illegitimate Monarchical Government
I don't have data. It is a capital mistake to theorize without data. — Sherlock Holmes
  • What does "real" mean?
    People say that ...

    1. The Eiffel tower is real
    2. Sri Xi Jinping is real

    3. Monsieur Sherlock Holmes is not real
    4. Fairies are not real

    Why?
  • Antinatalism Arguments
What defines something as inherently negative for example...? — Nickolasgaspar

Always being in a tight spot; either Hobson's choice or Sophie's choice. This is the nub of (my) pessimism.
  • A Just God Cannot Exist
    ↪Hanover
I see. God has been from a certain point in history portrayed as this benevolent figure that oversees/maintains the moral dimension.
  • A Just God Cannot Exist
I wonder what the intelligence gap is between humans and gods? If it's huge enough, our idea of justice maybe hopelessly far behind gods', making any analysis pointless.

  • DishBrain and the free energy principle in Neuron
    The takeaways from dish-brain are

    1. It learned (to play Pong).

    2. The brain seems reducible to electrochemistry (chemical-based electricity i.e. the brain is fundamentally electronic). Frankenstein's the wretch!
  • Is there any difference between a universal and a resemblance relation?
The title of my OP is asking whether there is such a distinction. — litewave

Does my comment not address your question adequately? If no, why?
  • Demarcating theology, or, what not to post to Philosophy of Religion
    ↪Nickolasgaspar
Yep, you have a point, but look at it from the persepective of topics instead of methodology.
  • Is there an objective/subjective spectrum?
    ↪Merkwurdichliebe
Indeed, that's one way to look at it, but running with a diagrammatic approach I can also see a spectrum with 100% objectivity at one end and 100% subjectivity at the other and a continuum in between. Agree/disagree?
  • Philosophical Chess Pieces
Q=B+C did I know? Yes, it is an observation I have made before. Does it fit here that rationality + denial (or its negation) = irrationality. I think it does. — introbert

It looks very complicated from where I stand. Perhaps more advanced folks might be of greater assistance to you than me.
