As if anyone can really fathom the greatest possible being, even in the mind.
  • Hangman Paradox
If it hasn't happened by noon Thursday, the prisoner should not be surprised it happens on Friday. But he doesn't know that it WON'T happen Monday-Thursday in advance. You can only eliminate Friday after it not having happened Monday-Thursday. You can't work backwards assuming it won't happen and then eliminating each day to fit that assumption.

  • The meaning of life.
    ↪Bartricks
So then what is death in relation to the chains of existence? And if God lets us out on good behavior (presumably our waking hours), do we experience "heaven" on the new earth as we usher in God's true vision for the world? What is death?
  • The meaning of life.

Will God consider letting us out for good behavior?

So from your initial scenario, would a prisoner would be in jail^2?
  • The meaning of life.
    "Gift purpose
On certain occasions — birthdays, anniversaries, dinner parties, the end of the year — it's customary. Underlying that custom is an important purpose: appreciation. We give people gifts to show them that we are grateful for them and value the role they play in our lives."

Our purpose comes from that which we are grateful for.
  • The meaning of life.
@Bartricks what do you think of abiogenesis?
  • The meaning of life.
    ↪Bartricks
My point is specifically to challenge your idea that purpose must designed. In our current scientific understanding, adaptive features evolved by natural selection (random mutation), nature retaining its effective tools. This is an example of something serving a purpose without design/intent. So even if God does exist, this does not invalidate purpose emerging via natural selection (without design).
  • The meaning of life.
How about adaptive features that animals have that evolved through natural selection? Surely those features weren't designed with foresight to achieve some purpose.

  • Let’s chat about the atheist religion.
The Wikipedia page for Gnosticism and specifically the section under Christian Gnosticism refers to Christ as a divine being having taken human form in order to bring humanity back to the light. It further refers to Christ as a manifestation of the supreme being. This is the gnostic Christian tradition granted the entry says there are many off shoots of beliefs on this matter. But why don’t you clarify where your atheism is?

  • music of atheism
Here is an example of what I would consider atheistic music. No spirit, no soul. The music doesn't breathe and its locked onto a metronome.

  • Jesus was a Jew. Why do some Christians and Muslims hate Jews?
    ↪Gnostic Christian Bishop

He calls all to repentance. You must be reborn to enter the kingdom of God. God's foreknowledge and man's freewill aren't mutually exclusive.

No people are not dinosaurs. To simplify, cancel out the negatives and you get people are dinosaurs (but you said this is not true) so that means (some) people are not dinosaurs.

with this we can say the following

    A) Some dinosaurs are people (follows)
    B) All people are dinosaurs (doesn't follow)
    C) Some people are not dinosaurs (follows)
    D) No dinosaurs are not people (Some dinosaurs are people - follows)

“It is not worth the bother of killing yourself, since you always kill yourself too late.”

I think he's trying to be humorous meaning that you should have done it yesterday. Its a pessimistic expression. He says life isn't worth living/beginning/starting but we can only ever experience already having existed. You always kill yourself too late because you should have never been born.
  • Heidegger on technology:
ready to hand vs present to hand differs in terms of what is conscious. I forget which is which,

The hammer is consciously recognized as an object distinct from its environment when it malfunctions and we have to consider it as an object.

from my understanding "to hand" refers to conscious focus. One can see the pragmatic coloring here.

  • Anti-modernity
    ↪unenlightened
Thinking about this more over the past couple days I might have to refine my definition to something closer to "dancing along the edge of the rules". Not simply breaking the rules but teetering between the expected and unexpected; expressing those beautiful paradoxes.

  • Anti-modernity

  • Infinite Being
Do you think matter is finite? Because if matter is infinite that is all you need to grant the possibility of infinite being. Are we exhaustively reduced to mere matter? Because also if we say there is no infinite being than something must have come from nothing and that puts you in the position of rationalizing something from nothing.
