• Does systemic racism exist in the US?
This mentality is part of the problem. Telling young black kids this makes them resist police that are simply trying to make sure that they are not being threatened. It makes them think that every police officer is racist, when that simply isn't the case.Harry Hindu

Nice. Victim blaming. If only women didn't wear skirts. If only black people weren't distrustful of the police.

EDIT: On the other hand, I suppose it's progress for you to admit there is a problem here.
  • Does systemic racism exist in the US?
Ahah. I hadn't picked up on that because being approached by the police for riding your bike in the wrong place is a common occurrence in the Netherlands. Happened to me plenty of times.
  • Brexit
Nobody gives a fuck about HK any way. It's barely in the news. I've stopped buying Chinese stuff or products with Chinese sourced parts. Difficult, time consuming and expensive.
  • Brexit
    Pacta sunt servanda.

Well, if we're talking bonds, reneging on promises happens quite often with sovereigns. Takes about 3 to 5 years to win the trust of the capital markets back but that's often driven by the opportunity of profit. Institutional memories last longer and political gears move slower. If the UK follows through with this, it will sour EU and UK relations for at least a decade. Costs to be borne by taxpayers as usual.
  • Coronavirus
Drunk people are more likely to get run over, so when they do, according to you, the cause of death isn't blunt force trauma from a car.

If it wasn't for covid, a lot of people would still be alive despite their underlying conditions.

There's actually an indepth discussion in this thread on the subject to what extent covid is killing people that would've died in the next year any way. Search for "cohorts".
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
Where are all these fears coming from about stuff that isn't going to happen?
  • Does systemic racism exist in the US?
I'm having trouble placing the kizzee shooting as an example. If it went down as described it doesn't seem totally unreasonable or am I missing something? The Guardado shooting in the same article is much more clearly bad policing/murder.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
Right. So Trump was worried about votes not being counted all that time and not voter fraud? The shapes you'll bend yourself into to defend the guy.

Unfortunately, suggesting to check the tabulation by breaking the law is still incitement. Your invented reasons are totally irrelevant.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
Isn't that incitement and therefore illegal?
  • Abortion, IT'S A Problem
I don't refer to "it" when speaking about animals either. If I know it's gender, I'll use that. Otherwise most animals are either grammatically female or male in the Dutch language and then we use that.
  • Coronavirus
4 more years of Trump and it might.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
That's quite obvious if you compare the lack of progress for minorities in the US and then look at Western and Nordic Europe since the 90s or so. Still countries with plenty of room for improvement but despite the pressure of populist movement I don't see an actual reversal (in fact, BLM has created more awareness with mainstream political parties resulting in a small push forward in NL again). The US used to be a frontrunner where it concerned race relations and immigration policies but it has stagnated and reversed course. Liberals let that happen.

    Which politicians are listening?ssu

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/26/us/politics/defund-police-protests-democrats.html
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
It certainly solicits the worst of the racists to come out touting their guns. It shows the double standard more clearly. It shows which politicians listen and which don't. And that in ways that peaceful protest would never lay bare.

It illustrates how salonfähig US liberalism works. "Sure you can protest but don't break anything. And I agree with your points and things should change. But really, we should just vote for Biden and not change anything because Trump is so much worse and you wouldn't want that would you?"

So US liberals won't vote for the politicians needed to actually make the situation better, most of them won't go out there to peacefully protest change (that's left for the "socialists, communists and activists", those evil forces that actually care about human beings) even in the face of gross injustices perpetrated against their fellow countrymen, they won't petition their representative with a request for the policy reforms needed because "bruh, I'm busy" with posting a black image on Instagram, taking a knee, arguing about when a protester is a rioter (as if a rioter still doesn't have a valid point to make) and sharing videotaped killings of black people reducing those crimes to a fucking meme.

US liberals are mostly cowards that talk the talk but never walk the walk.

Why on earth should protester take their delicate sensibilities into account and protest peacefully if they are never going to help them any way?

EDIT: In all fairness, it's not just US liberals, I'd estimate about 80% of people are too cowardly to stand up for their beliefs and actually take action when they see injustice.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
How is peaceful protesting working out for them so far?
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
Funny how you make less sense three replies in whenever I engage you. Who are these others I'm blaming? I believe I was talking to you and about your derelict moral compass and inability to read. Please quote me where I said Americans are fascists or apologise for the umpteenth lie about things I've never said just so you can have a pissing contest with a straw man.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
uhuh. So you're a liar and pretend it's my fault. Keep going charlatan.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
I haven't called any Americans fascists, but that lie serves to underscore your lack of ethics as usual.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
Partly. But then again, many conservatives can argue for law and order and not be fascists.ssu

Nothing wrong with law and order. It's the combination with an imagined enemy and government propaganda to that effect. If it isn't Jews, it's antifa.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
Create fear and offer more law and order. Reminds me of fascism.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
I condemn your total lack of morality. I'm horrified by any killing but where was your condemnation these past months? Instead you were justifying police brutality and killings because you were busy labelling protesters as rioters. You do not get to speak on behalf of any deaths on whatever side because of it.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
And here is at last the epitome of the partisanship of a Trumpster. Never mind all the protesters killed over the past months but if it's one of their own...

The MSM reports on both but they're so biased, right?

    Disgusting.
  • Does systemic racism exist in the US?
Well, I guess I should be lucky it surprises me as it says something about the state of things in the Netherlands (which has a long way to go as well). I guess what I mostly don't get is the lack of any professionalism with the police. Even given the racist history, the existing inequality and everything else you describe, government institutions ought to operate on the basis of the rule of law and that one is clear on the status of US citizens regardless of their skin colour. That situation warranted an arrest by anyone who claims to be a police officer. As far as I'm concerned that whole battalion should be fired for dereliction of duty.
  • Coronavirus
We already dealt with it pages ago. No need to repeat it.
  • Coronavirus
Please don't turn this in another anti-natalism thread.
  • Does systemic racism exist in the US?
    Rittenhouse movements

Another thing I don't get. Rittenhouse would not be arrested if it wasn't for the available video. He walks up to police in the end and someone is shouting he shot people. The police even asks if there are injured people further up the road, so they apparently heard but they don't arrest Rittenhouse. Wtf? If ever there was probable cause when a guy with a gun runs up to you with his hands up, typically a sign to surrender, and someone shouts he shot people.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
Trumptards go out and kill protesters and then whine about protesters yelling "Breonna Taylor" in Rand Paul's face. So there we have it, protests are threatening to them.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/gop-no-new-2020-platform-trump-agenda

The "greatest democracy" in the world has a two party system where one party isn't even capable of formulating policies anymore.
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
50% of the population of the "greatest" country in the world are deathly afraid of a lot of things. Communists, Mexicans, black people, the Chinese...
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
I zoned out when she said "I urge you to judge based on results..."

Trump hasn't done shit. So no need to hear the rest.
  • Does systemic racism exist in the US?
No different in the EU, I'm afraid. Although it's a matter of degree, particularly Eastern Europe has more issues with minorities. And we're definitely more tolerant towards black Americans, or other "westernised" black people, than Africans. And overall I think the Nordic countries have good institutions to protect minorities. Still, minorities are socio-economically almost always segregated and not necessarily included in society or positions of power - that still requires much more effort than it does for a white, married, educated, not-openly religious man.

The main reason I'd still invite every black American to move to the Netherlands is 1) if you get a job here the welfare system is yours; no at will employment, affordable healthcare with no racial disparaties in outcomes, 2) everybody speaks English and 3) nobody shoots you because of your skin colour.

And 4) fuck those racists that wouldn't want them to come.
  • Systemic racism in the US: Why is it happening and what can be done?
Do US police have Rules of Engagement? Because aside from all the systemic issues with regard to the wrong incentives, lack of education etc. if we want to eradicate the criminal element in the US police force, then the rules need to be very clear.

For instance, in the Netherlands you do not get to fire your first shot at a suspect unless your life or that of another is in immediate danger. An officer is allowed to draw his gun before that, but only after other means of escalation of force were used (baton, police dog, pepperspray). He's allowed to fire a warning shot but not allowed to shoot at the suspect unless there is immediate danger to himself or another. Note: never in the defence of property.

Every instance where the firing of a gun by a police officer results in injury (no matter how small) will be investigated by an independent branch of the Department of Justice (the police are part of the Department of Internal Affairs). If there's any doubt about the correct usage of the gun, his weapon is confiscated until such time as the investigation is over.

What I see, is some fucknut who can't handle being ignored losing his shit. I wouldn't be surprised if he beats his children or wife whenever they disagree with him.

And is it me or are there now vigilantes shooting protesters in Kenosha?
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
The first one I heard "I speak to you as a mother, a former prostitute..."

I'm a mysogynist apparently but it made her speech a lot funnier.
  • Systemic racism in the US: Why is it happening and what can be done?
I saw the Blake shooting. Why are guns even drawn at that point? Blake is unarmed...
  • Donald Trump (All General Trump Conversations Here)
clips? I'm not that interested in US politics I watch the DNC or RNC.
