If you were worried about that, you're about 200 years too late.James Riley

Not really worried. More bemused of how humans go around destroying themselves in the name of science.

    Another anti-vaxx troll.Xtrix

Not at all. Just pointing out that the madmen who created the virus are now, in high shrill and pure hysteria, trying to force everyone to partake in their madness. Their rationale: well heck, we are all dying sooner or later.

The auditions to The Twilight Zone (or whatever it is) are over that'a way (pointing).

No opinion on how scientists have destroyed life on Earth as we once knew it. How about at least a bow?
  • Anti-Vaxxers, Creationists, 9/11 Truthers, Climate Deniers, Flat-Earthers
What's known it's that the same mad group of scientists who led the charge for SAR Function Gain Research, are now leading the charge for vaccination. Everything else are stories made up by crazy people who believe in the philosophy that life ends for everyone, so why not experiment on them while they are alive? I wonder if this can be used as a Nuremberg Defense? This is the sickness borne of materialism, and there is no cure for it.

BTW, what do you think of a science-made virus that has killed millions of people and destroyed life as we once knew it?
  • Anti-Vaxxers, Creationists, 9/11 Truthers, Climate Deniers, Flat-Earthers
So pushing for vaccines is "nuanced"? OK, so the US is nuanced as well -- just with far more pushback from hysterical anti-vaxxers. Got it.Xtrix

Read about the Swedish story and compare the results. You are all hung up on sticking stuff into yourself and people. I don't mind you experimenting on yourself, but like some mad scientist, you have some sick desire to experiment on others, seeing as they are going to die anyway. A new justification for harming people?

    Those aren't the "same chaps."Xtrix

They are. You don't have a clue. Lol

    The Pied Piper of Hamlin.

This is one of the many claims that anti-vaxxers often use. In the "long run" we're all dead,Xtrix

Sorry, your philosophy about living a healthy and vibrant life is rather sick, which is why I don't look to people like yourself for advice.

quote="Xtrix;599534"]created in a lab, scientists also created nuclear energy.[/quote]

Yep, they do like creating toxic substances, don't they?

62% vaccinated -- better than the US. Apparently less anti-vaxxer bullshit/pushback in Sweden.Xtrix

    Nuanced, not hysterical.

US policy is not based on hysteria, it's based on the recommendations of medical expertsXtrix

The same chaps who created the virus. Good luck.
  • How can chance be non-deterministic?
What's the heart of the matter? The heart is that which is actually going on. How can there be no determined process going on behind the chances? Giving a new kind of chance.Zweistein

I have no idea why people cry for determinism/deity. I guess it is the assurance that they have no say in the direction of their life.

Nothing is determined. There are learned habits (memory of the Mind) as well as choices in intention that the Mind makes.
  • What does hard determinism entail for ethics ?
ethics is also about whether an action is justified or not, and free will is irrelevant to justification, therefore we can continue asking moral questions.Hello Human
    .
There is no such thing as justification under hard determinism. Everything is determined. Justification is just an utterance made without any meaning. Everything is determined.

The real problem with hard determinism is that there really isn't any discussion in this thread. It's all been determined. Now as fantastic as is may seem, the Big Bang determined persistent discussion about all kinds of subjects. Pure Black Magic.

Hard Determinists have created a more fantastical tale than the stories in the Bible, yet they believe it. Why? Because people like to create their own religious stories that they can believe in. Religious beliefs are archetypical. Determinism is just the latest religious doctrine.
  • Anti-Vaxxers, Creationists, 9/11 Truthers, Climate Deniers, Flat-Earthers
The trouble with vaccinations is that no one knows what the long term effects will be. Ingnorance is bliss, and potentially catastrophic. It's unfortunate that scientists created a virus that killed millions and continues to mutate (Andromeda Strain) , and because of this, I don't consider them a good source for advice. Way too much hubris for the little that they understand about health.

Now, unlike the U.S model, which is based upon pure hysteria and permanent pharmaceutical spending, the Swedish have done quite well. The only country that has adopted a nuanced approach to health.

You want to stop Covid and most other diseases. Stop eating like pigs (obese people are 3 time more likely to have severe problems), and stop stressing out like idiots. And by all means stop popping drugs that destroy your immune system.

I had a mild case, and my long-term immune prospects are quite good. Just treated it naturally. I won't have to take "boosters" every few months with..... what kind of long term effects?
  • Desire leads to suffering??
it's also the secret to immortalityTheMadFool

Cancer cells die along with with the body that gave it life. A suicide of sorts, which is a perfect analogy for the direction of the human species.
  • Desire leads to suffering??
I did consider that possibility but I was just wondering if the Buddha could extricate himself from the paradox. He can. I'm much pleased.TheMadFool

It's not a paradox. It is an observation of the human experience.

The advice is to lead a life of moderation.

Like cancer cells, human desires are unchecked, and are leading to the destruction of their environment that gives it life. If you need any support, just observe what is happening all over the world. Nero fiddles as Rome burns. Humans are what they are. Cancer cells.
  • Suppression of Free Speech
Yes, Big Brother has arrived. The Biden Administration will help us know the Truth (as well as being corrupt through and through).

When was the last time in history that a politician didn't LIE? When is Fauxcci going to be censored for his misinformation?
  • If nothing can be known, is existing any different to not existing?
Why do you suggest nothing can be known? There is certainly a qualitative difference between sleep and awake, but it's interesting that philosophy and science has pretty much ignored this very important aspect of human existence.
  • Is Society Collapsing?
I just happened to have recently had a minor medical procedure involving general anesthesia for a condition that, a hundred years ago, would have involved me probably dying of pain and infection.fishfry

There were and are many well known modalities for all types of human inflictions. Nowadays, the only modalities that are used, are the biggest generators of income.

But aside from this major accomplishment of modern medicine, let's not forget the millions who die prematurely every year from air, water, and soil pollution, the overbaked west costs of North American and the enormous fires, the droughts, the inferno in the Middle East, the flooding in northern Europe and China, and that little man virus called Covid, which even the coopted WHO finally admitted today that "lab accidents happen all the time", when being questioned on the origins of Covid.

Technology, in just a few decades, has destroyed the lives of most people on this earth. Like cancer, humans are bent on their own destruction, by destroying that which gives them life. No doubt technology companies and Wall Street will view that as an opportunity for growth, exactly like cancer.
  • How do we understand the idea of the 'self'?
Buddhist emphasis on no selfJack Cummins

This does not embody Buddhism. Some teachers believe that to find the Eterrnal, one must drop them Self. I have found in my own meditative practices, it is quite the opposite. You shouldn't believe what you read. Believe in what you experience.
  • How do we understand the idea of the 'self'?
Self is our history/memory. It is our duration imbued with an creative impetus to evolve/continue.
  • Is Society Collapsing?
I wouldn't call it collapse. I would call it an inevitable rejection (by Consciousness) of a very unhealthy way of living caused by a general embrace of over consumption, and a wishful faith in science to solve all problems, when from observation it is obvious that science and associated technology is creating an extremely unhealthy environment for Life and living.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
    give up.Pop

You are thrashing around in information because you are probably trying to be scientific. Information is a byproduct of Mind. Creativity is its essence.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
    foreverPhilosophim

The problem with the understanding lies in the conceptualization of Time. Time or rather Duration is the instantiation of Memory, not a space/time block. Basically, we confuse clock time with them real Duration of life. There is no beginning of end, just Change. You can never understand the nature of Nature (Life) by using logic or science.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
This is incorrect. You need a cause for the first movement, and the only one at your disposal is integrated informationPop

There is no cause. It all begins with Mind moving urged on by a creative impetus. It observes its movements and begins to create. There is no information until the first observation and collection of memory.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
The thing that is integrated is information. This leads to an experiment being performed, this creates more information that is integrated, which leads to more experiments, and so on.Pop

To "begin" it is only necessary to create movement (an impetus) and observe the results of the movement. Information (Memory) is then collected. There is no information until there is the first movement and observation (of itself).
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
I think you need to tidy this up a little. Before you can have an intention, you have to organize information.Pop

First there is crude experimentation and then information (Memory) is slowly corrected. Similar to a baby playing with some toy blocks.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
We don't have a universally accepted theory of emotions. What they are has been interpreted in various ways. I see them as a force like quality that we feel - this feeling provides impetus to self organize. In my understanding consciousness = self organization.Pop

Organizing is an aspect of the Mind's intention to create. Organization itself is insufficient to explain creative evolution. All aspects of the Mind, including emotions, are imbued in the creative effort.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
What creates the emotion / feelings, requires a theory of emotion. I agree with you, I suspect it is something like what I wrote to creative universe. What do you suspect?Pop

Emotions are way of sharing and experiencing, just like the other senses. For some reason, people tend to differentiate them into different categories. Probably because some types of experiencing are more directly tied to a physical nervous systems.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
 That would be emotion / feeling driving the integration of information, thereby creating a self organizing system.Pop

It would be more than emotions/or feelings. It is Creative. Emotions and feelings are derivative of the creative impetus.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
I agree. What I was trying to get at is that mind only deals with information. What it is learning, creating, and changing is information. No?Pop

Mind has Memory (information), but it also is imbued with a creative impetus. Information, without a creative impetus cannot change.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
What is it learning , creating, and changing? Is it information?Pop

It is the nature of Mind/Memory. It is what transpires and takes shape.
  • Parts of the Mind??
Mind is continuous as spiraling waves throughout the body.

This idea that the brain is the center of activity is so antiquated. Even biologists, recognize the "enteric mind" in the gut. It's unbelievable that such a notion of a single brain still exists.
  • Can we explain the mystery of existence?
Everything is Mind, and Mind is always learning, creating, and changing.

Now, for the origins of Mind/Light? I may be able to perceive such a thing, but it will require a completely different understanding and perspective of the nature of nature.
  • How Movement Happens
There are no particles. What you are observing are continuous wave movements. Everything is waves. Observe waves in an ocean to understand the process.
  • Bad Physics
Really dangerous, and this thread is Exhibit A. Observe totalitarian in the making.
  • What is the Problem with Individualism?
Individualism is the path toward a fulfilled life.

The public educational system teaches conformity, obedience, and propaganda for obvious reasons. This is the struggle of the human condition.
  • Bad Physics
This thread is an example of why science has become so dangerous. Take heed.
  • Transformations of Consciousness
Forget about heights. Maybe you get some adulation which ultimately is quite empty. What has meaning is not what others do, but what you do with your life.
  • Transformations of Consciousness
Meditation may be relaxing, and one may gain some self awareness, but you Are what you Do. There are no shortcuts.
  • Transformations of Consciousness
What I have learned is that increased awareness comes from lots of study and practice. However, people don't want to put the effort into it, so they put for promises of enlightenment from meditation. If only life was so easy.
  • The shape of the mind
Yes, I would liken it to molding a piece of clay into a new shape.
  • The shape of the mind
It seems reasonable to view this as an additive change.Pantagruel

Experience is a strange little breast. Experience does create change (a creative action), but is it additive? I would say it is transformative.
  • Do Physics Equations Disprove the Speed of Light as a Constant?
In this case however, scientists want to preserve doctrine over substanceGary Enfield

Science erected a god idol around a Time magazine cover story, and continues to worship it.

There is a reason Einstein received the Nobel prize for the photoelectric effect (which should have been shared with his wife), and not Relativity, and let's not forget he fought quantum theory to his death. There is no such thing as entanglement and instaneous action at a distance? Science constructed an idol and is too embarrassed to take it down. What will happen over time is it will fade into oblivion.
