• To What Extent is the Mind/Body Problem a Question of Metaphysics?
But, we do exist as aspects of a larger whole and as separate beingsJack Cummins

Can we ever know this larger whole? Or we just cant because we are not the larger whole?
  • Should science and state be separated?
I think not because schools are the temple of wisdomjavi2541997

That's the question. Although I have to admit that the stuff I learned was interesting. But the very fact it was made obligatory didnt make me feel free at all.
  • Why Was There A Big Bang
The standard cosmological model of a hot Big Bang is nearly universally-accepted,Seppo

Nearly. But one different model is enough to make it shake at its fundaments.
  • Did Socrates really “know nothing”?
I'm fed up with your questions! — KDT

    Who is KDT?
  • Should science and state be separated?
What do you mean as "obligatory"? You are referring to school teachings or something relatedjavi2541997

Indeed. On high schools and below. Universities are free choice.
  • Can we see the brain as an analogue computer?
Explain what is the content of the matter, and how is it non-physical.Corvus

Ill think about it. Buon appetito!
  • What are the objections against ontological relativism?
The fact that it's rather easy to combine things on an abstract theoretical level is a basic counterargument to your position and answers your question.CaZaNOx

The different realities can be combined if they each ARE (sub) vector spaces. How would you see the difference between the two realities? What are the base vectors?
  • Can we see the brain as an analogue computer?
is not a simple to just say either this or that.Corvus

Why is that not easy. I can simply say that there is some magical stuff inside matter that becomes our soul and feelings once inside us.
  • Should science and state be separated?

I tend to agree. But do you think the obligatory learning of the sciences shouldnt be banned too?
  • Can we see the brain as an analogue computer?
    The essence.Corvus

Cant the essence be the non-physical content of matter?
  • Can we see the brain as an analogue computer?
Sure but the fact that humans are made of matter, and the physical body is not enough argument to say the real entity of mind and souls are also the physical body and matter.Corvus

    The real entity? Whats that?
  • Can we see the brain as an analogue computer?
You can see machines whatever you want, but human brains cannot be reduced to machines.Corvus

Arent we made out of matter? Thats what you eat. You can say we evelved from some initial state of the universe and thede days we have an internal representation of the physical outside world. In this inside world things are going on like in the outsidde world. Im not saying we are matter only (I think thats what you mean by a machine). Matter has content.
  • Can we see the brain as an analogue computer?
human brain cannot be reduced to machines, just because some machines are made to copy some of the functions of human brain.Corvus

If you see machines as soulless things made by man, no they cant.

This is proof you are a fantast. Who says YOU are not working your way through the internet. I tend to think you do as you show no true understanding of the matter spoken of here. Well, a bit. At starters level.
  • Metaphysics Defined
As per your description, how can free will allow that you both can, and can't, know what the outcome of your choice will be?Metaphysician Undercover

In quantum mechanics someone cannot know a physical outcome with 100% certainty (though the wavefunction develops deterministically). Your not knowing doesnt influence your free will
    Nor does full knowledge.
  • Metaphysics Defined
A "non-fully predetermined" world is not compatible with a "fully predetermined world", so how could "free will" be compatible with both of these?Metaphysician Undercover

Free will is compatible with both. In a NFPW world you cant know (in principle) what the outcome of your choice will be. In a FPW this can be known in principle.
  • Anti-Realism
An astronaut dropping an object on a spinning asteroid might perceive it as falling diagonally to the ground. Under this way of analysing gravity the Earth is just so massive that there wouldn't be any visible horizontal component to the falling entity.Michael McMahon

This example shows that there is an objective existence of two relative frames. Relatively rotating wrt each other, that is.
  • Did Socrates really “know nothing”?
    That's what theists wouldTheMadFool

What would they do? Make you admit?
  • Anti-Realism

Whats the difference between posing the subjective existence of a subjective reality only and the objective existene of an objective one only?
  • Did Socrates really “know nothing”?

Nontheless it was a nice polemic. And eventough God and the gods are there I prefer not to gove a goddamne thing about them. Insofar Im concerned they are dead. I use him only for interpreting QM, which he or they created.
  • Did Socrates really “know nothing”?
No, nothing surprising/out of the ordinary/counter-intuitive going on.TheMadFool

Then you have to admit that God HAS an influence on epistemology.
  • Philosopher = Sophist - Payment

I didnt speak about the amounts of money. There are people who own 100 million euros while on the other hand there are people struggling to make ends meet. Thats immoral!

Policy, or law, is a fancy word we use to disguise impositions made by governments through threats of violence. That to me is irreconcillabe with loveTzeentch

There is indeed little love involved there. But now we are indeed drifting off. How much I like drifting off I dont think its appropiate...
  • Did Socrates really “know nothing”?
God didnt like pure chance. In fact he couldnt even imagine it! Thats why he created hidden variables.Prishon

Dont you think this is ironic.
  • Philosopher = Sophist - Payment
Explain the logic/rationale behind what is essentially dislike, perhaps even hatred, for sophists back when they were part of Greek culture, about 2000 years ago. Money still has a bad rep - money can't buy everything! (false but humor me).TheMadFool

I dunno whats the reason behind hatred or essential dislike. Why do you ask this? Whats the connection with the old Greek. Money cant buy anything but you CAN buy a book that contains wisdom.
  • Anti-vaccination: Is it right?

Yes. But if you pick a ball with the intention to pick a yellow one and truly pick it you have to look into the container.
  • Did Socrates really “know nothing”?

Does it get your adverse juices flowing? I guess yes. I cant see the irony in what I said. God didnt like pure chance. In fact he couldnt even imagine it! Thats why he created hidden variables.
  • Philosopher = Sophist - Payment
Money, what it stands for, is an old enemy!TheMadFool

Why should asking money for wisdom make the widom less wise? I rather pay some money for good wisdom than getting bad for bad.

    (thats 5 dollar please)
  • Coronavirus

Cant you maintain a degree of decency when you base your policies on love?
  • Did Socrates really “know nothing”?

Its very relevant to the discussion. If God cant create pure randomness then this has implications for QM.
  • What is Information?
@KenoshaKid, The guy that should not be taken too seriously. Sometimes though he shows signs of being reasonable. Very sometimes.
  • Madness is rolling over Afghanistan
if the US would withdraw from the country it has occupied, it will create a safe haven for terrorists to strike mainland US from the safety of having camps in Afghanistan.ssu

Then they shouldnt have put the first domino brick upright in the first place. Why is a first stone put up? Because the western scientific capitalist technological way of living is the best? Imposing it with the very products (high-tech weaponry, potentially able to wipe out of existence every culture in one fucking flash)? Which has already been done with a lot of cultures who just wanted to be left alone. Not only by the US (in fact the US offers in principle a safe haven for all of these and thats what I like about the US; but... thats all nice in theory...but in practice it seems this is not the case...as far as I can tell, because Im no part of that great (in principle and not ment ironic) country) but by all "civilized" countries who were in search of the new world (in accordance with the Enlightenment imperative to discover endlessly). They imposed their way brutally (like before not too long Aborigal children in Australia were taken away from their children to educate them "properly").
  • Coronavirus

Then why base your policy on rational thoughts?
  • Anti-vaccination: Is it right?
Here's a primer - If the prevalence of yellow balls in a container is 20% and red 80%, my chances of picking a yellow ball are 20% assuming I pick randomly. If, however, I'm predisposed to pick yellows, my chances of picking yellow are greater than 20% even though the prevalence of yellows remains unchanged.Isaac

You can be predisposed but how can that influnce your picking of a ball? Im predisposed every time to win the lottery but never won it.
  • What are the objections against ontological relativism?
I am not proposing anything, at all.CaZaNOx

You propose an answer to my question. What is that new reality of vector space? Its a nice analogy but subsumes both gods and quarks under the one reality of a vector space. But non of them is part nor parcel wrt to it. The vector space equalizes things that cant be equalized.
